Welcome gift

Jess, on February 11, 2021 at 1:59 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

Hi all, what are your thoughts on welcome gifts for your guests to receive once they arrive at the hotel? I don't really want to spend a ton on this. I thought about maybe just getting cookies from our favorite bakery and ordering cute little bags to put them in - that would only cost us like $90. We have a small hotel block since most of our guests live in the area.

Welcome bags/gifts are totally optional! If they're not in the budget, it's fine to skip them. I think the cookie idea is cute though!! I once stayed at a hotel where they gave out warm chocolate chip cookies upon check in, and it was honestly a really nice treat to enjoy after traveling all day. If you choose to do the cookies, I think your guests will enjoy them.

Completely optional. Never received one as a guest so I wouldn't miss them if they weren't there. Save your money for food/drink/entertainment at the reception that guests will remember or a better photo/video package.

We did welcome bags for our hotel block, and they were a hit! Customs like these vary regionally--I've personally never been to a wedding on my side of the family without some kind of welcome bag or gift at the hotel block, but my husband had never heard of welcome bags until we started planning for our own wedding. We simply went to Costco and bought in bulk to make ours. We made 30 welcome bags for a grand total of maybe $50-$60. We included water bottles, chips, pretzels, crackers, granola bars, gummies, raisins, and mini hangover kits that I DIY-ed. Your idea of cookies sounds absolutely perfect though!

I’m personally a sucker for getting things like this. It’s just really thoughtful and really nice to see. But it’s really not necessary, but if you can fit in your budget I’d say go for it.

As a guest, receiving some kind of edible welcome gift when you arrive at the hotel after a long day of travel hits the spot. We will definitely be doing welcome bags for the guests staying in our hotel block! We're planning to have an assortment of snacks and treats in them, so we're doing one per room, not one per guest. Having cookies from a favorite bakery is a fantastic idea.

We did welcome bags for 20 people. We bought navy bags filled them with our favorite candy bars and snacks (Reese's, Snickers, personal Golden Oreos and trail mix), bottled water, a personal pack of tissue, and a personal sanitation pack - a N95 mask, personal size Lysol, a mask guard, and personalized mini hand sanitizers). The bags and food items all came from Dollar Tree. We purchased the labels for the bags and mini-sanitizers on Etsy. They were a hit! You can't go wrong with your cookie idea though!

Like Lisa, and other pps have mentioned, they are optional!

I really like the cookie idea, especially since it's something you both enjoy, and it's from a bakery you know well! I'd also suggest maybe a couple of water bottles as well!

I love getting a welcome bag as a guest! It really helps to have some light snacks for the hotel room, as well as bottled water(s) that don't cost $4.00, haha. For our bags, we are also adding a travel sized Lysol wipes (to sanitize the room), $5 Starbucks gift card (there is a Starbucks in the hotel), and disposable rain ponchos in case of inclement weather during our wedding weekend.

I love the welcome bags. A lot of the ones I have seen are relatively cheap but excellent as a gift. They usually have mini water bottles, some snacks, packs of Advil. Essentially mini hangover kits which is what I always need

I've only been to one wedding where we stayed in the hotel block, and we were pleasantly surprised with a welcome bag!

I agree with everyone else, that it's not necessary but always well received if it fits in your budget!

I love the cookie idea, especially as a way to shop local and it's good publicity for the bakery!

I also Love the Ideas others have mentioned about little personal hangover kits, I may steal that lol

I will say I went to one wedding that gave them and I loved it! That’s what made me decide to do it for my wedding! It was nothing big, the couple gave our water bottles, a couple pieces of candy and Famous Amos cookies, but the thought was really nice! Most guests were also coming from further away and therefore got ready at the hotel, so it was nice to have a little something to snack on while getting ready! Totally optional and definitely one of those things that no one will notice if you don’t have it, but it’s a nice touch if you can afford it!

Yes if it's in budget I'll say go for it! We're having people come from out of town and we'll be gifting them welcome bags as well.
