Welcome party - Destination wedding

Milena, on October 7, 2020 at 1:39 PM Posted in Parties and Events 0 4
Hi Everyone, I’m new here! My fiancé and I recently got engaged, and we will be having a destination wedding in Cartagena, Colombia.
We will be having around 120-150 people at our wedding, but we are having a hard time over the Welcome Party. Cartagena doesn’t offer the packages as some all-inclusive resorts in other locations. So we need to figure out the $$$ to host something for our guests. Everyone is out of town, people will be traveling from the US, Europe, and South America to Cartagena for our wedding, and I want them to feel welcome.
I would like to hear your advice or experiences with welcome parties. We did the quick math, and it could be $5.000-7.000
TIA

Not sure what the question is but I'd take a second look at the math, $5-7k seems low for that many guests. I would also be surprised for 150 guests to attend an international destination wedding, so that could really affect cost.

I agree with Katie. 150 + guests for an overseas destination wedding sounds quite high. Have you sent out invitations yet? Received RSVPs? Before planning a welcome party, I would wait for your RSVPs to return so you have an accurate headcount to give.

Hi Milena! I've been to a lot of welcome parties that are just an open bar (or beer & wine) for 2-3 hours, and should be closer to $3k for booze for that many people.

Will you be staying at a hotel or house where you could host your guests and hire a few bartenders?

Our wedding planner also said the same thing about the # of guests. Out guest’s list is 300+ people. We have an idea of who will go and who will not, around 150-170 people will attend or less.
But yes, thank you for your comment. All my friends and family members had small weddings and the numbers so we are trying to put $$$ together to get all set for the wedding
