Welcome Party

Stacey, on January 7, 2020 at 5:58 PM Posted in Parties and Events 0 5
We are having a welcome dinner following our rehearsal and my aunt just messaged me asking if it would be okay for her, her husband and her two children to attend even though they aren't attending the wedding. She shares custody with her ex-husband and she has the children the weekend of the wedding. We didn't invite children to the wedding because it would have taken us over our budget to include them. My aunt lives an hour from our venue so she wouldn't be traveling far for the welcome dinner. I think it is weird that she would attend the welcome dinner, but not the wedding. We didn't say children couldn't attend the welcome dinner, but I guess we thought none would because they aren't attending the wedding. The welcome dinner is definitely more laid back so we don't really mind if children attend, but I am not sure what to say to the aunt. Has anyone else had this happen if so what did you do?

Aww, it sounds like she really wants to celebrate with you but since she needs to be with her children over the weekend, is respecting your wishes by not attending the actual wedding with the kids since you’ve elected to have it child free.

I’d make every effort to include her, she’s family.

It sounds like she is trying to be a part of the celebration anyway that she can be, so I would let her. She is trying to respect your wishes of no children at the wedding while still being involved.

I agree with the above posts! It sounds like she is being respectful but still wants to see you! If you can I would let her! Best wishes! Congrats!

I think it's fine, I'd just let them attend.
