Rebecca
Dedicated July 2021

Well, it's not happening

Rebecca, on July 24, 2020 at 12:31 PM Posted in Community Conversations 3 25

I was on track to get married in Western NY on 9/6/2020. Everything booked. Was just starting to sleep again at night and get excited after spending much of the last few months on an emotional roller coaster. I received a call from our venue coordinator yesterday that capacity limits have changed, and even though they're "hopeful" restrictions would be lifted at the time, they gave us options. We made our list of 50 and got into an argument over who to include/exclude. We thought about what that day would look like.... That said it all to us - we don't want to do this. We *would* have postponed months ago, but our venue strongly advised us not to and would have charged us a few thousand bucks. At this point, being about 45 days out, they have informed us we can select a new date in 2021 at no charge. We plan to get legally married on our original date and have the big hurrah next year sometime (working on picking new date). I cried for hours last night out of sadness, frustration, anger,....and also relief. I guess my advice is to not compromise for less unless you're okay with that. Mostly just wanted to vent, and thanks to anyone who reads this!

I am in the same boat as you. I am so sorry that the venue and things are so upsidedown. At least at this point, you guys are able to get married on your original date and will be able to have fun at the big party later!

Oh No! I'm so sorry. You're right, you should never have to compromise especially with a day as special as this.

I’m so sorry! I had to postpone and I’m now 9 days out. I did compromise on a lot but I hit a wall where it was no longer fun and I had no interest in drawing it out longer. I’d rather just get it over with. Sad. But the marriage is what’s important. Not the wedding. I hope that your date next year is everything you’ve dreamed of

I’m in mid Hudson Valley and I reached out yesterday and postponed our 10/30/2020 wedding to 10/22/21. Same state so obviously you know, can’t have over 50 people, no dancing, they aren’t sure about if the cake can be left out or table decor and guestbooks and what not because it’s something touched and easily can hold germs and there’s really no guidelines besides the 50 people, masks and no dancing. I just couldn’t do it anymore. We have been planning since May 2019 and I believe we are headed for another second wave. NY isn’t enforcing flying rules like they said. People are still trying to fly here from states like FL to have weddings here and not understanding the rules because they aren’t not being asked to fill out papers or anything. It’s not good at all!!!

So sorry Rebecca! As a fellow Buffalo bride who was supposed to get married on August 28th, I feel for you. We just decided a couple days ago to postpone until June 2021. It was such a tough decision to make but I cried way too much lately and just wanted it to happen the way I envisioned before all this started. Your day will still be special and amazing!

Totally feel you! We have been planning since Feb 2019. We are hoping for August or September next year. We live in Colorado and so far aren’t on NY’s mandatory list, but it would have added an extra headache if we had to go early and self-quarantine. We would definitely have taken all the precautions, but others aren’t quite as conscious as us just like you pointed out!

Yeah, it just became too many compromises that it would be so different from anything we could have imagined

Yeah I don’t think I saw it on the list yet but we did add now 31 states. Which honestly he (cuomo) did kinda state in the open for the first time that they aren’t really enforcing things. The DOH is like meeting people at the airplane exit things for those states and if they haven’t filled out papers they will do required to do so but there’s no way or crossing checking anything so it’s on the person the to be honest. Anyone could write something down and lie and there’s no way of actually knowing and the whole mandatory qauerntiune is basically calling or texting to check in for 14 days. Like really? You can’t possibly believe there’s much control there. Some will be honest, some will actually isolate for 14 days and some will say they are and call and text to check in once a day and then run around everywhere and you turn your location off and the cops aren’t gonna start having fbi track phones... please! It’s up to people to be honest and follow the rules and while some do, some know that there’s major ways around easily and do so because they don’t care at all!

I hear ya girl. We were set to be married Sept 19th and CA is on a trip with this virus. I remained hopeful until it was just mentally exhausting, so like mostly everyone else, we “cancelled” for now because we have no other date we can pick until CA says we can.

Yikes! Wow. I guess I hadn’t considered that a state could prevent from picking a new date, but I suppose that makes sense. We’d considered a short honeymoon to CA. It was plan C. We shelved that plan. We are going with plan F, which is spending time in the mountains of our home state CO.

Well, what I meant by that was we can’t even apply for marriage license in certain counties and mostly every county is on a watch list. CA opened up before to the “virtual” wedding ceremonies but I just find that so....forgive me for saying this, but pointless-at least for us. It’s not what we wanted and were not going to give in. So if longer isn’t what it takes, we’ll have to take it.
