well my dress no longer fits -_-

Laura2.0, on February 17, 2017 at 1:12 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 28

I bought my dress off the rack last year in July. It fit perfectly just had to get it shortened. I stored it at my parents house and left it. Tomorrow is my alterations appointment so when I went to pick my dress up last night I tried it on to remember what it looks like....well now it won't zip up all the way.

When I get stressed I gain weight, and over indulge. I gained 7lbs since July. I'm not sure if it can be let out or not yet, but I feel so disappointed in myself.

I'm trying to stay calm until my appointment tomorrow and see what they can do but I'm worried. Did anyone else have a last minute weight gain problem?

Aw I'm sorry!! I'm sure it can be fixed. You could even have alterations change it into a corset back if that's something you like?? Then it won't look like you gained anything Smiley smile

Also other brides on here have mentioned they get so busy getting ready for the wedding in the days leading up that they lose a few pounds.

Something similar happened to me- if it's not much they can just let it out, but if you need more room they can add panels to the fabric so you can zip up properly! It was an inexpensive fix Smiley smile

If you are a month out I would look at getting the dress let out a bit.

It's possible to lose 7 lbs in a month but that's a lot of pressure to put in yourself.

I'm hoping and praying they can let it out. I love the buttons on the back of the dress I really don't want to add a corset back. I thought maybe I could loose the weight in the month but it is a lot of pressure and will probably add more stress which will cause more weight gain.

    This happened to me.

I didn't go on a crash diet, but I did go on a strict one, and it all worked out fine!!

I immediately cut out: ALL alcohol (no wine at night was the hardest!), ALL soda (even diet, because it has tons of sodium), ALL fast food (sodium! calories!), anything else high sodium etc.

I drank tons of water, ate only lean meats and veggies and fruits and yogurt etc, and MOVED MORE. I'm not a huge exerciser, but I did start walking nightly. It helped work off the wedding stress too! And, I used MyFitnessPal to track calories. I limited myself to 1900 cals a day.

And then I lost 8 pounds in three weeks. Just by doing these things.

    You can do it!!

It wasn't a crash diet, it was a "health crash"

Can you try to add a 30 minute walk into your day? It may help you shed a pound or two without crash dieting or drastically changing your lifestyle.

A good seamstress (or even an ok one) should be able to help, although how much/easily will depend on how much allowance you have in the dress. In a worst case, panels can usually be added and I'm sure no one will even know, but as you and PP have said, try not to stress until you actually talk to him or her. Also, Mrs. D's advice/plan is overall really good, but if you're not able to do all of that, the top things to focus on are stopping ALL soda (including diet, which studies have shown to actually make you gain as much as or more than regular ones), alcohol, up your water intake, and move whenever possible. Seriously, I have heard so many cases of people dropping weight quickly as soon as they quit soda entirely, including FH who used to be addicted to diet coke, then stopped cold turkey, and eventually dropped 50 pounds, however to be fair that was over the span of a year, and he also started eating better and exercising more, but he says the soda is totally what started everything going.

Most importantly, though, remember to breathe. Good luck.

You should be able to get it let out, although, loosing 7 pounds in a month is completely doable.

Your seamstress should be able to make it work! Make sure to keep a close eye on your diet though, if not to lose the weight at least to maintain so you don't have a serious crisis the week before the wedding! Good luck OP, dieting is the worst but we're all rooting for you!

It should be able to be let out a little, maybe be extra strict with your diet over the next few weeks. I know this is super stressful but I'm sure seamstresses deal with this situation all the time. I'm a big time stress eater so I feel your pain! Try to just breathe and see what they say

Honestly it could be water weight. 7 pounds is almost a daily fluctuation for some people. Drink plenty of water and try to limit salt intake. Should do the trick. Don't panic!

Don't stress, and take a deep breath!!! Definitely drop the sodas, even diet!! If you are going to "diet", as a nurse and someone it worked for, I can totally recommend Carb Cycling (NOT low carb) as it is a very healthy way of eating, and when I first started I dropped 4 pounds the first week. Add TONS of veggies, and walk even if you only add in 10-15 minutes at a time, broken up in 3 or 4 increments in the day. Good luck!!!

Definitely talk to your seamstress about letting the dress out, and don't crash diet. Losing 7 months in a month is definitely doable though with a few simple additions and cuts to your regular diet. Try not to drink too much alcohol, no soda, no super sugary drinks period. Drink at least half your body weight in ounces of water a day and limit your overall salt and fast food intake. If you stick to lean meats and protein, veggies, some fruit, and yogurt, you'll definitely lean out in the next month. Also incorporate more movement, like other PPs have said. I lost 50 pounds in 4 months between high school and college just changing my diet and walking for an hour every night. It can be done, don't stress!

Losing 7 lbs. in one month when you're super busy getting ready for your wedding is not "totally doable," in my opinion. Plus, it is a bad idea to put that sort of pressure on yourself to lose weight. Speak to your seamstress. Come up with a fix that fits the dress to you, not the other way around.

I'm sure everything will work out and you will look beautiful at your wedding!

Like Mrs.D said, it can be done, but have a backup plan in case it doesn't work as well or as fast as you need it too. No alcohol, no soda, low carb it for a while (fish, chicken, greens) and you should be okay. Some of it may be water weight which will fall off if you drink more water and refrain from salt.

If you change even just one thing in your diet, make it water. Drink a gallon a day. It will definitely help. Plus help your complexion for the big day! Best of luck to you!
