Welp....I dropped my keys down an elevator shaft

Janeen, on December 23, 2014 at 8:07 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 40

I came in to work, surprisingly energetic. One could say....too energetic. I was bouncing my keys in my hand, they bounced out, I tried to ninja catch them mid air (I swear, normally I can do this). Instead, I successfully punched them right over the crack where the doors are just as the doors opened. Naturally I said, "oh no oh no oh no", reached for the keys, and bumped them and down they went into the elevator shaft.

I wonder if this means I'm stuck here forever.

The building manager is going to love me when he gets in. He's going to have to call someone to stop the elevator and retrieve them. lololol

Awe man that stinks! I hope they have no trouble getting them back for you. On the plus side, this is a great story to tell in the future and I'm sure you will be able to laugh about it for years to come!

Sure, it's annoying, but come on guys, you gotta admit this is pretty hilarious. lol I get to start the poor building manager's day with "Say, John, I know you're really excited about how you're going to be off on vacation, but Imma gonna need you to call a company and scramble to find a worker who can get my keys."

And the chances of that happening two days before Christmas? Probably pretty slim, so FH's probably going to have to bring me my keys until after the holidays lol.

I did the same thing with my cell phone a few years ago! It teetered on the crack and just as I reached for it, it fell. Building management was able to recover it, and much to my surprise, there wasn't a scratch on it (from 7 floors up!). Obviously, this was prior to my iPhone. Haha!

I left my work keys at home once. Had to get a spare from security. Well I usually keep mine on a stretchy spring type thing and keep it hooked into my belt loop. The key security gave me was just a key and I was so scared I would lose it. Soooo I get into the elevator, turn my key in and as I'm pulling it out of the thing I get all fumbly and drop it DIRECTLY down the gap by the door as it is closing. When I got to the first floor I was still panicking and the door opened and closed because I was in there not thinking that when the door closed again, I was stuck in there until someone else had to use the elevator. I cried and thought I would die in that elevator at work and that would be the last anyone heard of me. Thankfully, it was maybe 1.5 minutes until someone came to use it.

    I hate elevators

Well, at least it wasn't an umbrella. In college, my roommate managed to drop my (not small) umbrella down the elevator shaft. It's not that big of a space but she managed to do it.
