Were you expecting a proposal, yet totally surprised by it?

We have been talking about getting married for months. We went ring shopping (looked at rings). We've been discussing actual wedding plans. We even took our engagement photos because the photographer I liked had a ridiculously good deal for a short period of time. I knew the official proposal was coming *some day*, but no idea when. Lo and behold the proposal came and I was completely surprised!

Did something like this happen to you?

Totally surprised! We had talked about it for a long time as we had been together for 8 years but we both wanted to finish school before we moved in together or got married. We had a whole big graduation party planned out for him and his sister with dinner and a party bus with the whole family, looking at christmas lights. While I was planning his party, he was planning the proposal and did it the night of his graduation while we were looking at lights! Total surprise!!!

We had been planning to tell my parents that we were planning on getting married. We had picked out and customized a ring, and I accidentally found out that he had bought it, but thought there was no way that he had gotten it yet, since it was a custom project. He and my best friend coordinated and just when I think he's about to tell my parents the news, he drops down on one knee! I had to walk away to compose myself, haha. Poor guy Smiley smile

FH unfortunately can't keep a secret so I definitely knew the proposal was coming....everywhere we went he introduced me as his "soon to be fiance". He asked me at one point "if I ask you to marry me what would you say?" lol and then he even told me to see when my dad was free because he wanted to ask him something very important. Then he would constantly tell me that he had something to ask me but was so very nervous to do it. Then he even showed me the box LOL - yeah he's that bad!!!! I knew it was going to happen on the cruise that we took but I didn't know exactly when until the hostess asked us if we were celebrating anything special - he moved me to the side so I was thinking dang its the first night on the ship and he's gonna ask already! but still somehow he caught me off guard and I was surprised - crying all over the place lol

Yes. I had tried not to talk about marriage too much since I wanted the proposal to be a suprise. We met at a New Year's Eve Party, and the following Thanksgiving he moved in. I was expecting a New Year's Eve proposal, so it would have been on the 1 year anniversary of us meeting. Then I started getting ideas in my head that he might suprise me and do it closer to Christmas. Then one of my good friends asked him what his plan was, and she told me to be patient. I assumed that meant that he wouldn't propose until our vacation in Hawaii in March.

On an ordinary Wednesday night, I was sitting on the bed with my laptop paying bills & surfing the internet. FH came into the bedroom and proposed. I was laughing hysterically to the point of tears because thats what I do when I am totally suprised. I at least thought he would pair the proposal up with a romantic date, but he wanted to suprise me and thought making plans for a night out would make me suspect something was up.

Yes. We'd only been dating a month so it was a bit sooner than expected. But--just that day I'd been on a hike and told a hiking friend that I was going to marry him. I just knew.

And so did he. Smiley smile

I knew it would happen sometime soonish after he asked my dad for his blessing, but i didnt know when or where he would do it. i knew he was intending to do it about twenty seconds before he did, though becuase he was trembling and he never gets nervous.

Yes! I knew he had the ring. We went ring shopping before and totally unexpected at a place we thought we couldn't afford we found it. He couldn't really keep it from me that he bought it. Then the waiting began. One month, two months, three months... I knew he wanted to do it in the summer. So I figured at the beach. Summer finally hit and we went to the beach... Nothing. Next time.... Nothing. Then the timer after was right before we were about to move in together and he had told me he wouldn't propose before. The night before the actual proposal he slipped but then we went and nothing happened and we were ready to leave. He put on his shorts and told me, you know what, wanna take a quick walk? I had already given up on that day but then everything fell into place, and I found a heart shaped rock and gave it to him. He used it later to write in the sand "Marry me?"

We had talked about it for years, looked at rings together and apart. Last may went shopping for mothers day, walked out of the jewelry store engaged. Lol. We didn't get the ring had to get it sized. When it came back in he never told me and surprised me by proposing officially at the effiel tower in Las Vegas. I was happy with the way it originally happened because that's how we are, go on for one thing come out with something different but he wanted to make it special.

Yes! We talked about marriage a lot and we had gone ring shopping so I knew it was coming. We had planned a trip to Vegas and FH mentioned he had made reservations at a fancy restaurant while there. I was convinced he was going to propose at the restaurant. I got my nails done and even got a new dress to wear. But then he kept doing and saying thigs to throw me off so I didn't know what to think.

A few minutes after we checked into our room, I was watching the Bellagio water show out the window and turned around to see him with a ring. And the first thing that went through my mind was "Wait, we're not at dinner yet" so I was definitely surprised he did it at that moment!

Yes! We had a custom ring made for me. I knew the ring was done, but I didn't know that he had picked it up yet. Totally floored me, and I was elated by my surprise. That was one thing about knowing it was coming that had me worried, that the moment wouldn't be as special - so glad to be wrong about that! It was wonderful.

I seriously thought it was NEVER going to happen. My FH is a slow mover. We dated for 3 years before moving in together and lived together another 3 before he proposed. He didn't even TALK to me about marriage other than asking me one time how I felt about marriage. I stood with my mouth hanging wide open in total shock for a good while before I could even muster a "yes".

I was surprised, but I knew it was coming. I didn't expect him to go ring shopping less than a week after surgery, with drain tubes still in his belly.

I knew it was coming, but I didn't think it would be when it happened. I was actually really afraid that he was going to do it on a work trip we took to Hawaii... yes, I didn't want my then boyfriend to ask me to marry him in Hawaii. You read that correctly.

He later said he decided to do it on the lot to our new house because we take a lot of vacations and we are constantly doing "something" so this was low-key and just us and our future family. It was absolutely perfect and could not have been any better.

We talked about it but we both agreed it was too soon ad with the kids (4) combined that timing was bad. It was a random wednesday night in June when he picked me up from work with all of the kids just like he did any other time. I was tire and cranky and my 3 little ones had me on edge and he drives to the top of a mountain. I started being grumpy and said c'mon I wanna go home. He said relax I want you to see this. So as I got out the car he opened all doors on the car I turned around to see what the heck he was doing and he asked me. The kids started screaming " ya mom do it do it please please please" I was blubbering like a idiot. But it was amazing!!!

We'd been talking about it for awhile. We'd even looked at rings one day while at the mall.

So I knew it was goin to happen at some point but didn't know exactly when or how it would happen. It was an awesome surprise. He did a good job.

YES! I knew I would get one by the end of the year, we had looked at rings as he asked me what I would want. But instead of around Christmas he proposed at the end of June! WAY before I thought, and I had ABSOLUTELY no idea. He had been in several times to get them to drop the price on the ring, and finally they gave it to him and he walked out and proposed that night!

We talked about it a lot but I told him if and when he did it he needed to surprise me- I think he did a pretty good job overall Smiley smile

I suspected the ring-purchase day (turns out I was right) but I had NO idea until about a minute before he was going to do it... it was at sunset on a quiet beach- it was fantastic!

Not to mention he picked out the BEST RING EVER without my help hahaha.

I did not expect it nor want it. I had expressly told FH that I had already been married twice and had no intention of doing it again, when we first started dating. So after living together for about a year we had a weekend get away on a train tour. We went out to dinner and when we got back to the motel I was laying on the bed and he asked me to sit up because he wanted to ask me something. I had a sinking feeling right then that I knew what was coming. He pulled out the ring and said "I know how you feel about marriage so I just want you to have this ring to know that if you ever change your mind I want to marry you. Three years later I told him it was time. It was definitely a surprise though.

Same here, we had talked about marriage and i had pointed out a few rings i liked... we had just started living together and he did it on a random tuesday night when i LEAST expected it! He totally caught me off guard

I think for the most part, a man won't propose unless you HAVE talked about it and he knows its what you both want.

I had no idea my FH was going to propose when he did, I knew it would happen eventually, but we had decided we wanted a baby first, he proposed a month before I had our daughter. I was completely shocked, he even disappeared during our christmas eve appys to ask my dad, at that point we had been together for 7 years so my dad was like, why are you asking me, I thought you guys were already married lol
