We've been invited to a wedding... verbally.... on Saturday....

JaKLyn, on April 30, 2015 at 4:19 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 38

So one of FH's cousins ran into us while we're out running errands. She decided to invite us to her wedding this Saturday because, "We've had a couple of yes's who had to back out last minute". She then finished up with telling me where they were registered and that she really hopes we can be there so she can "finally meet little Maria".... A) you live 20 minutes away and I've never met you, B) how rude/gift grabby can you be, and C) it's MaKyla....

I politely declined saying that we have other plans already, but that I hope she has a nice wedding. Her parting words were that she can't wait to come to our wedding.... Guess who's not invited.

Ya gotta love clueless people...

Maybe that was a weird way of fishing for an invite to your wedding?

    IDK. That's all I got.

Some people... You should have told them that little "Maria" would love to be a flower girl, you have the perfect dress but, she doesn't eat anything but, vegan truffle macaroni and cheese.

Last year we were invited to a wedding via text message. And since it was my DH's friend, we went. My DH has a serious problem with FOMO (Fear of missing out).

I didn't think it was that terrible until she gave you registry advice. I understand people don't like being asked to a wedding last minute and I would never do it, but I don't have an issue with family doing it since I know budgets can restrict people from inviting everyone they wanted. And the Maria thing. Lol. Close enough.

@Futuremrs it seems to risky for her to fish that way since she told us when and where to go. FH wants to send 7 or so people in our place...

So she doesn't even know your name but she expects you to:

-Go to a wedding where you weren't privy to an invitation and clearly were on the b c or d list.

-Buy her a gift for her wedding in 2 days.

-Invite her to your wedding because, duh.

    Bitches be trippin.

Didn't you have a similar story like this one recently?

    Terrible.

@FMS FH thinks she was, but she got cut. It was the cousin that he didn't realize was even related to him... he thought she was a family friend that he hasn't seen in a long time (she married before and he didn't recognize her married name) Sadly in his family it's not that uncommon for them to invite you last minute. His mom thought it was no big deal when she brought 7 people to a wedding in which they had 2 seats. That bride was less than thrilled, but there are a ton in his family who don't see what the big deal is.

Wow. That's pretty ballsy - I foresee a rant/post in the future about this girl demanding an invite as yours gets closer...or your FMIL re-demanding that she be invited since she did "invite" you to hers..

At this point FMIL isn't invited to our wedding, nor is she in contact with us, so that shouldn't be a problem. This woman has no way of contacting us unless she magically finds him on Facebook.

"Hi, Z-lister! Guess what? We have to pay for food that won't be served or eaten! Don't venues suck? Are you interested in eating food that will either end up in your stomach or the garbage can? We're so thrilled that you might be able to attend and absorb what we have to pay for! You, or the garbage can? At least you'll bring a gift! So, whaddya say? Are you coming, because we can't wait to come to your wedding!". This is why B or C lisitng is inappropriate.

Woooooow, @JaKLyn. That. Is. Insane. Crazy!

Also side note- any The Office fans out there? This reminds me of one particularly hilarious scene when Dwight is trying to kiss up to Jim and asks, "So how's your daughter? What's her name--Peepee?" And without missing a beat Jim goes, "Oh, it's Peepah, actually." (For anyone who has forgotten or doesn't know, her name was Cece. Ha! Gotta love Jim.)

Anyway, sometimes I forget that Dwights can actually exist in the real world! Yikes.

Wow....and I thought the idea of being B-listed was bad! This girl's like "Well I know I don't know you and have never cared to meet you, but because we have had some cancellations you can come now! Oh and don't forget our present!" ***smh***

Wait, you disinvited your FMIL now? I've lurked and watched your horrible family drama unfold, and would be fascinated to here how her non-invite to her son's wedding went over...

Adding her registry info was just too much...just wow.

Personally, I did verbally invite someone last minute to our wedding that had told me they really wanted to come. We had a last minute "yes rsvp" decline. I of course didn't even think to bring up registry info.
