What are brides doing for their bridal showers during COVID?

Jodie, on August 16, 2020 at 5:02 PM Posted in Parties and Events 0 14
Our wedding is at the end of October and I was curious what other brides are doing for their bridal showers or have done during COVID.

My mom hosted mine in June (actually the day before we had to postpone). It was 100% outside, with disposable serving ware and tables that were 6 feet apart. We also only had about 20 people and masks were encouraged.

Some people are doing drive thru showers, others are limiting the number of people attending. Before we postponed my wedding and bridal shower, we were planning on doing a staggered start time, where everyone would be given a different time to show up, so that we'd have a max of 6 people attending at any given time. This way, we still would have been able to adhere to social distancing, and I would still have gotten to socialize with everyone.

The staggered shower is a cute idea!

How did you announce the staggered times? I am thinking that could be a good idea for mine but I know most of my friends talk so I would not want them to find out they are invited at different times and thinking they are staying longer waiting for someone.

We ended up postponing before they sent out the invites, so I can't say whether or not this worked out as well as it sounded, but I believe they were going to have time slots available on a Google form or something, and when people received their invites, they could go online and sign up for whatever time slot worked best for them.

Side note I plan on having one but inviting like 19 most and I assume many won't come. I am gonna discuss the invitation wording with my MOH who is hosting but I think I will make masks required and stress practicing social distancing. Sadly September in FL will be hot and could rain so I do not think I wanna make anything outdoors.

You could do something similar with the Google form, or let your friends know ahead of time about the available time slots so they could figure out what works best for all of them, and they could all sign up together for the same time slot.

Oh that is a good idea. I only have a list of 20 and some may not go but I do like the whole they sign up when they want to come so that way it should not be more than 10 per time slot. Was it going to be every hour or every two hours???

We are still having one for our bride next week. There’s 14 people total so it’s not too many at least and we will spread out and provide masks

There is a website called sign up genius and you can see who signed up for when because I have groups of friends some of who do not know each other and some who will know someone at the party. Let me discuss with my MOH and see what she thinks. Smiley smile

I'm not sure how they were going to divide up the time slots, but I would think maybe 2 hours is a good time slot. Some people may not stay that long, and others may feel that 1 hour isn't enough. I personally think it'd be better to have longer time slots so no one feels like they're being kicked out early if the next group shows up a little early. Another idea might be to add a 15-minute gap between each time slot (such as, one time slot from 10:00-11:45, next time slot from 12:00-1:45, etc), to give time for one group to leave before the next group shows up.

Since you have 20 people total, you could do two groups of 10. It might be easier to do one group in the morning and the other group in the afternoon, with maybe a half hour between the two time slots? You could still have people sign up online for the time that works best for them, but having only two groups means you can spend more time with each group. I think 2-3 hours would be plenty.

I was thinking 1 1/2 hours - 2 but it also depends on my MOH she may not want people there that long ha ha ha. I mean 20 is not bad and I doubt everyone will show but you never know. Her house is a good size. Worse case I am going to require masks at least which some of my friends are like me where they do that naturally in large groups.

That makes sense! It does make a long day for you and your MOH, since you have to be there the whole day instead of just one time slot. I think 1.5-2 hours would work great! Good call on the masks. I'm sure everything will go well, let us know how it works out!

Yeah I think my MOH is more calm than me. Worse case I may have to make some cuts. There are probably 4 or 5 I could remove but it is hard. I am kind of hoping I can invite everyone and many cancel...at least that way they were invited lol.
