What are the most important parts of your celebration?

Miss Michal, on October 18, 2010 at 12:10 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

Follow up to my earlier rant post. Obviously, there are things that really are important to me:

Marrying in my chosen faith tradition, which includes some time preparing with the priest and getting married in our church

My dress and "total look"

The flower girl's outfit! I will admit to making her a bit of a dress-up dolly, but she loves it.

Shamelessly plugging our favorite charities

Showing my family a good time and making them feel special, which involves feeding them well and letting them sing

Good photography, including engagements, bridals, and pictures with our kids

Spending the rest of my life with the nerd of my dreams Smiley laugh

#1 marrying my Bookah Bear in front of all our family, close friends and God

The reception food and music is realllly high up on our list of importance. My family will talk about us if it's bad lol. We want everybody to have a good time and a great party.

Photography is really important to us too but it's so expensive!!

Finally being able to get married after nine years together!

Having a Jewish ceremony (which took a lot of arranging, as NotFroofy is not Jewish)

Time with our family and close friends (We rented a big house for the night before the wedding and the wedding night, so we could serve all meals other than the reception there, and have informal time rather than just seeing them at the ceremony and reception.)

A chance to celebrate with all our friends back home. (We had a reception there for everyone, since our ceremony was small and far away.)

Oh, and did I mention finally being able to get married after nine years together?

I think the most important part of the reception is the music. So while we skimped on other aspects of the day, we chose to pay extra for a band.

FH and our children. Other than that- I truly don't care.

I'm trying to make this celebration about us and very personal. We're going to a restaurant very similar to the one he proposed at here. We're having some personal touches that are really all about us and celebrating the relationship and the union.

A dress is nice. Stationary is pretty. Candles can provide an ambiance and set the right mood. But at the end of the day- they only thing that really matters is standing up with FH, in front of our children and pledging our lives to one another.

@Oorah, we're hiring a professional photographer for the wedding, but we're allowing some of our family members to shine for the engagement and family pics. In addition to placating some egos (everyone thinks they're a great photographer), we can save some money, AND if we truly get nothing usable we can always book a shoot with our pro. Definitely easier than staging the wedding again.

@Alena, I love your blog. I have to say, your hubby's last name would make you sound exotic and mysterious. And @Oorah, Bookah Bear is just adorable. My Phil would pout for days if I called him Ducky in front of anyone but Jesus.

I should mention that the little girl in question is not actually a "flower girl." She's escorting her daddy down the aisle. But when I say flower girl, people get the general idea of a preschooler in a frilly dress, so that's what I'm calling her for now. She's adorable and I get to dress her up all the time now! Oh, and she's going to be my stepdaughter. That's cool too.

    - My dad walking me...he's 78 yrs young! We wanted to do a DW but my dad won't fly (but will drive all n down the East Coast all day).

    - Our kids - the fact they want to be a part of the wedding, makes it even better. We are doing a family prayer during the ceremony, FS daughter will do a reading and my baby will make the toast. Minus the champagne of course.

    - Photography...muy importante!

    - The Honeymoon. You'd think I would have traveled a lot this year, being a p/t agent, but I didn't.

I have never wanted anything more badly than to become Mrs Easterby. Everything else is just aesthetics and a great time.

#1 is the obvious - marrying my best friend

#2 - Great Photography and Videography, it's important for me to be able to look back on our day both with pictures and video too so that one day we can show it to our children

#3 - Having my Gama there - she is the last of my grandparents and I am one of the last 1st generation grand kids to be getting married and she has never missed any of the weddings

#4 - having both my dad and step dad walk me down the isle and give me away together. I never thought it to be a possibility since they never got along and always acted like children instead of grown adults. But over the last few years they have managed to become the adults I always knew they could be and have both agreed to it

#5 - The Honeymoon, other then long weekends here and there, FH and I have never been on a real vacation together before and my last real vacation was over 10yrs ago.

#6 - and lastly the cake - but this is FH's thing not mine - he is obsessed over the cake.
