What are the pros and cons of having a wedding the day after Thanksgiving?

Mrs.mendoza, on May 6, 2018 at 11:08 PM Posted in Planning 0 18
My mans and I were thinking of having the date of the day after Thanksgiving of 2019, it's a Friday. What do yall think, are any of yall having it on a holiday or close by a major holiday? Or have had a wedding by those days?

The problem may be a lot of people are out of town visiting family, but on the plus side may have a lot of people in town as well!

I went to a wedding last year the saturday after thanksgiving and it was fine. They had family come in for thanksgiving and stay for the wedding. It was a lot for his parents because they had family staying for about 10 days but overall it was fine.

It depends on how people celebrate the holiday, I think. It is also an incredibly busy travel time. Flights are expensive

Pro- family may make it a priority; but will these people who are traveling g expect to come and stay with you?; could be cheaper

Con - expensive flights, friends who don’t have local family may decline, smaller turnout in general

I have every other year with my kids for holidays so I'd probably decline on that fact alone.

While the day after Thanksgiving sales are generally deepest early in the morning, many people still use that day to prepare for the Christmas season. The wonderful consequence to a wedding the day after Thanksgiving include beautiful vistas, close family will likely have planned to meet, and many families budget to trsv during that holiday. This may be a difficult decision, but whatever you decide must be perfect for you!

Mine will be the Saturday after Thanksgiving this year.
Pros: easier for family that is driving into town (majority of family also in FL, SIL in TX with 3- will be 4 by then kids), out of state family may already be in the state for the holiday. Anniversary will be on a long weekend. Even if we stay in town for Thanksgiving we still have 3 days.

Cons: higher airfare for out-of-state guests, really not sure if it will lead to a higher or lower than average decline rate- I've heard both, people want to spend time with family not at a wedding and that everyone will say yes since it's south Florida and they want to get away from whatever cold state they live in.

People are out of town visiting family... some people do like to shop Black Friday... I wouldn’t take what is a family holiday...

I think it would be ok. Like many have said expect some declines, but I think with enough notice people can adjust their plans. If you start until late afternoon or evening people who want to shop can still do so before hand. I don't think it would ideal, but I don't think it would be horrible.

It can be a problem for any guests coming in from out of town. Flights will be more expensive, gas prices are typically higher around holidays, and roads will have more holiday traffic. You may also have more difficulty finding vendors willing to work on that Friday.

Finding vendors could definitely be an issue. Much of their work for Friday would normally occur the day before and that would be Thanksgiving Day. I don't know any vendors that would be willing to do so.

Pros: People already have time off, venues MAY be cheaper (or more expensive because of the holidays)

Cons: As a guest, it's frustrating to have to leave family festivities for a wedding (went to one after thanksgiving last year). We travel to parents for thanksgiving so we were running around like crazy people. If all of your family will be there anyways it will probably work well, but it's tough for non-relatives.

I would say that most of your family would already be in town and that way they can see everyone for thanksgiving and be there for your wedding.

Unless you are a member of my family or one of my very closest friends or are local, I would not miss a Thanksgiving weekend with my family for a wedding. You are also asking people to travel on the busiest (more expensive) travel weekend of the year. I would predict a higher decline rate than usual.

I think people are tired after Thanksgiving, and I think some people probably celebrate Thanksgiving on Friday/Saturday or Sunday with their families if they have members in retail that work on Holidays. That would also probably mean rehearsal and rehearsal dinner on Thanksgiving?

Flights are really expensive and airports are crazy. That's the only thing I'd be worried about.

This is super selfish, but Thanksgiving is such a special time for me and my family and I wouldn't want to forego our Holiday traditions to go to a wedding. I would certain attend if it were a family member or close friend, but it would kinda suck, because the weekend after Thanksgiving is really important to me and my family.
