What are the things people will not buy off registry?

Thais, on October 23, 2017 at 5:13 PM Posted in Registry 0 33

I'm creating my registry and I'm wondering what items won't be bought (so I don't add them).

I feel that it would be weird to add a broom? Would somebody actually buy it?

What are some items that people never bought off your registry?

Add what you want, not what you think people will buy you.

Most places give you a discount on what's not purchased for you, so like RealLindseyO said, add what you want. If you don't get it, you can buy it for yourself at a discount. That's what I did.

I registered for $100 pillows that i'm sure no one will buy. Nonetheless, I want $100 pillows.

I agree with @Elizabeth. Also, sometimes I like to make gifts that total $100 or so out of several smaller items on the registry. I recently put together a gift basket of all the kitchen utensils that the bride registered for.

I didn't think anyone would get us our dinosaurs. We now have a trex cookie jar, and trex salt and pepper shakers.

We thought we'd get pots and pans and our blender but we thought wrong. Most people gave us cash so I'm not complaining.

I got a dust buster I wanted. So, I would put a broom if you want a broom. You get completion discounts at most places so if it's something you want, add it and buy it yourself if no one does. There's no harm in it being on there.

I have already started browsing for my registry. Every time I look at something I'm like "No that's too expensive to ask for". I've got to get in the same mindset that I just register for what we like and then people will buy what they want to gift.

Every single thing on our registries was purchased and we kept having to add items!!

In general, as long as you are adding items at good price points - and at a variety of price points - you'll be fine! If you add a bunch of super pricey items to your registry there's definitely a chance they might not be purchased.

Add the broom. I once saw a "basket" of household goods at a shower. They lady wrapped everything up so you knew exactly what it was. It was really cute!!! Everything in the basket was something you'd need. What I do notice is that people like to buy the things you will actually use first.. ie linens, silverware, etc. I have noticed that people don't buy the decorative items as much. All of this is just from what I have seen in past years. It probably varies greatly.

Honestly put everything you want on your registry. Even the broom, it isn't unheard of. No you won't get everything you are asking for, but you will be surprised of what people buy you even things that you may feel are too expensive. Most places will give you discounts on things that weren't bought so even if you don't get something you may want/need you can get it yourself. Just make sure the registry has a things in different prize ranges.

We got a utility bucket for mopping that we wanted as well as a wire brush that specifically goes down the drain to collect hair that DH wanted on there, so I really wouldn't classify anything as being too unglamorous for people to pick out off your registry. I don't think you can really predict what people will or won't choose to buy from your registry. It's there to give people ideas of what you actually could use. If someone is wanting to get you something off your registry, they'll choose the item that speaks to them.

I also never thought anyone would buy DH's three compartment deep fryer, but we now have the capability to fry three different foods at once.

I'd just put whatever you want on there, honestly. If you want a hose and a shovel, put them on there! There's really no way to predict what people will or will not purchase. Keep in mind too that sometimes people will join up to buy more expensive things.

I put a rug doctor on our registry and H put a $150 knife (yes, singular. One single knife. $150)

The rug doctor was not purchased. The knife was.

    People will surprise you.

Generally, people will go for more practical items (e.g. cooking appliances) over less utilitarian things like decor.

I added what I needed because you get the discount on them which others have mentioned. Don't just add things you think people will buy. Add what you need for your home/future home

Also- sometimes a group of people go in for a high priced item. I've done that with friends before for things like a vacuum

When I go to bridal showers I usually do a theme.. so baking, cleaning, organization, etc. I plan on setting up my registry this way. Fh and I have our own house, so the registry will be on the smaller side and used for upgraded items.
