What are you dictating for your bridesmaids?

Are you identifying their jewelry, shoes and hair? Combination of those? Or is it whatever they feel comfortable with?

We decided on a dress together, and I asked them to wear black shoes of their choice. I bought their jewelry so it wasn't an added cost for them and gave them the choice if they wanted to have their hair and makeup done (in any style they chose).

I've asked my bridesmaids to attend the wedding, hold a bouquet, walk down the aisle and stand at the altar, and either do a reading, give a toast, or carry the rings.

When pressed further for dress specifications, I said white, off-white, gold, silver, something like that. But I really don't care.

All I told them was what colour and length the dress had to be. They could choose the style that they wanted, ended up both being a similar style. Also said that they needed to wear black shoes, could even wear a pair they already owned and I didn't care the height of the heel.

I paid for their hair and make up the day of, but I didn't really care what style they had or the colours. I trusted the hair and make up ladies at the salon, one of them being my MOH's aunt.

General clothes but giving them some opinion - (they are kids so have to give a bit more direction)

I'm going to be picking the dress (with their input), and I will ask them all to wear the same color shoes (I'm thinking grey/silver right now). Other than that jewelery will be up to them unless I decide to include earrings in their gifts. Hair/Make-up will be up to them but I am asking that the two girls with longer hair either both have updos or both wear it down. If needed I will pay if they both want updos though.

    Edit: Typos

I let them wear any black dress they chose - long or short, any material. My BMs are my 2 sisters and sister-in-law - all different ages, styles, and body types, all in different states. Frankly, finding one dress that would work for all of them seemed impossible. As long as they are happy, I'm happy.

None. We're doing mismatched dresses (all knee length and hues of deep reds), but they can wear whatever shoes and jewelry they like. As for hair....whatever they want! My only thing for hair is if they want it done professionally it must be somewhat simple. Mine will only take 30 mins and since they are all OOT and will be going to the salon with me, we just don't have time for 2 hr updos.

My BMs are my 2 sisters so I guess it was a little easier to make "collective decisions" instead of "dictating". I didn't want mismatched dresses for only 2 girls, and they were against the soft colors and long dresses I liked. We agreed on a short black cocktail dress they could wear again and I found a few, they picked one they loved and I found coupon codes so they could get good deals from bcbg. (and I've already had to ask they wait to wear them)

My one sister decided she liked a pair of earrings and bought 2 pairs for them to wear. Not my fav, but they both like them so I told them if they wanted to spend that money it was up to them. I asked them to find a pair of black peep toe pumps they both liked and I bought them so I guess in a way I'm telling them what to wear, but they're getting free pumps that they picked out so it works. I'm also paying for their make up and my best friend is doing their hair so I asked they do natural-ish make up appropriate for the spring time and a simple updo that my friend can do in under 30 minutes.

Are they going to match and did I direct their styles? Yea, kind of.

But they have the same style as I do, they had their choices, and I paid for most of it & they are happy. And I think they're going to look pretty damn hot :-)

I dictated that they wear a short dress (within a range of colors).

They always look nice so Im not worried about their hair or make up.

I also put one of my BM's on crazy duty. She is to make sure all craziness stays 10 feet away from me. I remind her almost daily that its her sole purpose!

The dress and their hair. Ex. If I wear my hair up I would like their hair down. Could be soft curls or whatever but I like it cohesive. Shoes I dont mind.

I have chosen 15 dresses all of varying shades, cuts, lengths, etc. and am going to email my BMs pictures of the dresses requesting they choose their top 3. If they all have a dress in common that they like then I'd ask them to buy that one. If they all have different number one choices then I'm also okay with that. For shoes, I'm asking for wedges, flats or sandals, but no flip flops. This is because we are getting married outside in July by a lake. Heels make no sense. Preferably a color that goes with the dress or neutral.

MOH is a hair stylist so I'm not even thinking of the maids hair. They all have different tastes and lengths ranging from a pixie cut to waist long. I figure between the maids knowing their hair and my MOH, they will look good.

We all picked a dress together. They can wear whatever jewelry or shoes they want (they've decided on gold).

I didn't identify anything, not even the dress. I had only one female attendant, so there was no need for matching or coordinating. So I just asked that she let me know in advance what she was wearing, and we coordinated the personal flowers and the decorations with the dress she chose.

I took them all to try on the dresses and picked one and so they all have to get that one. But all I told them was black shoes and I will be buying their accent jewelry!

I told them what color and fabric to get and the style is up to them, and trying on 10 dresses later they all picked the same dress lol! They have free range for the rest of that stuff, I am so not micromanaging here.

I said "send me a picture of all the dresses you own"

They both had the same dress so BAM!

I left hair up to them and have a girl coming to do mine that can do theirs but im REALLY REALLY hoping my sister gets her hair done. I love her to death but man can that woman not do anything but one style! lol
