What are you doing immediately after the reception?

Maria, on March 15, 2011 at 9:40 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 43

Are you getting on a plane going straight on the honeymoon? Are you going home? Are you going to a hotel?

Since our wedding ends at 4:30, we are going to leave from the reception in a Rolls Royce the venue provides to a hotel at the airport for 1 night. Then leave for our honeymoon the next morning. Just curious as to what you are doing immediately after the wedding is over.

We having a mid morning ceremony, luncheon & cocktail hour, then an after party with a DJ & Alcohol - ours will be going all day. I figure some of the older guests can go rest or do other things while we do the after party! Smiley smile We will be doing our honeymoon 6 months after our wedding because we are having a DW. Smiley smile

Our reception ends at 4:00 so we're heading to the bar where we had our first date. Luckily it is down the street from our ceremony/reception location.

We had two receptions: a luncheon immediately following the ceremony in Massachusetts, and an at-home reception three days later. After the luncheon, we went back to the house we had rented for us and all our guests for the night before the wedding and the wedding night. After the at-home reception, we spent a lot of time packing up all the food, decor, etc. from the reception, then drove home. We did not take a honeymoon.

I think leaving the next day is too stressful! We are getting married Saturday afternoon and having a luncheon. Then, we'll go to the hotel for a few hours and um, *bond. We'll meet up with people later that night for dinner and hanging out a bar/dancing, etc. We leave on our honeymoon Tuesday- but we have to drive back home Sunday/Monday.

If you haven't booked the honeymoon yet, consider leaving Monday or Tuesday. Tuesday will alos be cheaper to fly somewhere. You will still have gifts to open- and do you really want to wait until after the honeymoon? That puts more pressure on to get Thank You notes out much quicker- and those things take time!

Let me also point out that you have to be packed and ready to go the next morning. That's more you have to get done before the wedding. And you may not get too much sleep that night... if you're lucky!

@Mehgan...thanks for the suggestions. But we have alot of help so once we walk away from the wedding, everything related to the wedding will be left in the hands of assigned folks. I am taking a week off AFTER the honeymoon to "get settled" and do things like thank you cards, sorting through the cards, etc. Not to mention all the legal stuff around my name change....ugh. We want to go straight to the honeymoon so we can keep the lingering moment of love, bliss and wedding. If we head back home, I'll get into "business mode". We will have our bags packed and everything. The day of the wedding. As far as tickets....a couple who works for Delta is giving us plane tickets for our honeymoon as a gift. I think what makes this something easy for us is the venue is doing all the wedding stuff for us so it hasn't been stressful. No running around, everything way ahead of schedule, etc. Plus again, lots of help so it's been stress free.

I hope so! To me, I know I have a million last minute things to do that I don't want to be stressing over packing for the honeymoon as well. Stupid stuff, picking my dress, drycleaning FH's suit. Making sure my kids are packed for the time with their grandparents and all their stuff for the wedding is ready.

I just want you (and every couple) to ahve some down time and not feel like it's rush rush rush to the next thing. I know I won't be sleeping- just barely napping on my wedding night. The idea of getting up and having to catch a flight is an absolutely horrid one- to me.

But each wedding and couple is different. Just wanted to make sure you had thought it out- and it sounds liek you have.

And plane tickets for a wedding gift! Super awesomeness!

Our wedding is on a Saturday evening and we will go back to the hotel and just hang out and probably sleep because it will have been a long day! The next morning we will be up early to have brunch with the family and do a gift opening. Monday we will drive back home, since the wedding is in our hometown. Then on Tuesday we are leaving on our honeymoon.

We are staying the night in a hotel after the reception. We aren't leaving on our honeymoon until a week after the wedding.

We are going back to our hotel after the reception. The next day we are having a small brunch at my parents house (Sunday) and then on Monday we are flying out. We want to have a little bit of time to breathe before we head out on the honeymoon and the airport we are flying out of is approximately 1 1/2 away...so waking up Sunday to catch our flight is not going to happen!

Our reception ends at 11pm Saturday night, and our room is in the same hotel as the reception. We are driving home the next day, (it's a 3 hour drive) and then going on our honeymoon the following Friday. I don't think I could handle the addtional stress of the honeymoon next day!

I think for us since the wedding ends so early (4:30) we have the rest of the evening to relax (and etc etc..tee-hee-hee) at the hotel AAAAALLLLLLLLLLLL afternoon and evening, and to just focus on us. I would'nt want to go back home and do all the busy stuff. It would just seem such an abrupt end. Sunday...we will be ready to continue the rest, fun and food at the honeymoon. Our honeymoon is just a 4 hour flight so I think that helps. (smile).

The venue for our ceremony and reception is a historic inn in downtown, and in their package it includes a honeymoon suite the night of the wedding. I am so excited that I can just literally go right upstairs after the celebration (that is to end around 10) and crash! FH is going to be coordinating the honeymoon, so I am not sure when we would leave. Our wedding will be on Sunday of Labor Day weekend, so we might wait until Tuesday to leave so that we can spend some more time with out of town guests.
