What are your guests throwing/waving/blowing as you exit church?

nikki , on July 4, 2011 at 7:13 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 20

Our church has pretty strict rules as far as what we can have our guests throw (basically nothing) & I'm not sure if bubbles are my thing (although the easiest Plan B & I've been tempted for convenience sake). What is everyone else doing? Need ideas!

We're not getting married in a church, we're getting married outside, in a conservation area, as we're walking 'out' people will be blowing bubbles Smiley smile

it sounds like your options are pretty limited.. what about noise makers, or pinwheels? what is your theme?

Elizabeth - I have seen the Ribbon Wand idea - but is that a DIY project that can be done fairly inexpensively?? Any links?

Julie - I love the sparkler idea too. A neighbor of mine has an awesome pic of herself, her husband, her maid of honor & his best man & they are standing in a line & are each waving out a letter spelling the word "Love". Great photo.

The above suggestions are timely - bubbles, sparklers, ribbon wands, pinwheels.

    A few different ideas are:

A beautiful idea for a sendoff, although a bit more costly, is to give the couple a sendoff with live butterflies. These butterflies can easily be ordered online and usually come in small cardboard boxes that have been engraved with the couple's names and the date of the wedding. Each guest is handed a box and when the couple emerges, the boxes are opened and the butterflies fly out, making for beautiful photographic opportunities. The downside to this is that some of the butterflies die during transit, leaving many of the guests with a still box.

    * For the couple that loves to have fun, the guests can send them off in a blast of silly string. Be sure to invest in cans of silly spray that are both non-toxic and non-staining. The last thing you will want to do is stain the bride's dress or the groom's tuxedo.

If the couple loves flowers, and roses especially, buy bags of rose petals from a local florist (or silk rose petals from a crafts store, if you prefer) and place a handful or two of them in decorative bags for the guests. Against the white of the bride's dress, the rose petals will look beautiful.

    * If the wedding is taking place sometime close to New Year's when they may be in abundance, you can invest in champagne poppers or silly noisemakers (if the venue prohibits items that will make a mess) to help send the couple off.

    * Another costly sendoff would be to release doves when the couple emerges. With this sendoff, not every guest receives a dove to release. Usually, the dove handlers are rented for an hour and they are in charge of releasing the doves.

Just a note about doves and butterflies -- they need to be released at least an hour before dark (so the doves can find their way home and so the butterflies can find flowers to feed on).

My Church said nothing that can fall on the floor, including bubbles. So I was thinking giving each guest a balloon, and then everyone letting go at the same time. Not sure yet though. Let me know what you come up with =)

If you do balloons, you have to order the special ones that don't harm he environment/wildlife.

We're doing ribbon wands. I made them with two different colors of ribbon and tiny jewelry bells on the end. The project was time consuming, but they came out really professional looking and the bells make a nice little noise when the wands are waved in unison. : )

We went with just applause. No mess and no harm to us, our guests, or the environment.

We aren't doing anything. We are getting married outside and then guests have a 20 pace walk to the big reception tent, so it's not like we really need a "sendoff" to the reception. It's one less thing to have to worry about LOL
