What can I put under mason jar centerpieces that isn't too expensive???

kscha925, on April 5, 2014 at 8:52 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 21

I was looking for doilies to put under them, but it turns out a lot of them were expensive, and they only sell like one or two together. I can't find proper paper doilies.

Is there anything at craft stores I could use??? Like could that fancy paper they use for scrapbooks work? Or is that stuff too thin and flimsy??? Getting 14 place mats mind get expensive. I'm looking for something that isn't white, but more colorful.

What about charger plates? That's what I'm using under mine. I got them for about $1 or $2 at Michaels and then used a coupon.

What about colorful napkins? Get your colors & alternate, if you got personalized ones & have extra I'd use them

What do you consider expensive? Is $10 expensive? $5? $2? It's hard to help without a bit more info since expensive means something different to everyone.

I know you said placemats were expensive, they can be - I got mine for $7 each and I've seen them for as low as $3. They made a huge difference for my decorations so were completely worth the expense in my mind.

Well, first off, I like to buy things in bulk, rather than buy one thing at a time. If I have to buy things individually, $7 wouldn't be too bad. But like some of the doilies I found are like $20 for two. That's too expensive.

Have you considered going to a fabric store (like JoAnn) and buying a few yards of lace, satin, etc? You can cut it in the shapes you need and it usually isn't too pricy.

A friend of mine use mirror tiles beneath her centerpieces and it looked amazing. She got hers a Michaels but I'm not sure what she paid for them. I've found them for about $2 a piece. If you're set on the doilies, check a thrift store or second hand markets, they might come in a bundle for a steal.

Dollies are not expensive! You need to look for bulk ones online. I found mine for $20 for like $10 or something! I don't remember where though..

Ikea sells the square mirrors for like $1 a piece. We are using cloth napkins. I can get a set of 10 for like $25 on amazon. Much cheaper than a table runner.

I love the idea of scrapbook paper . There are so many awesome patters/colors that I'm sure you could find something that would work. It's also a good size and shape as is. If you need it to be sturdier maybe you can mount it to some poster board. Good luck.

Instead of lace or paper doilies, you could try using small table clothes or cloth napkins to off-set your mason jars.

If you can acquire them, simple, unadorned drink coasters can also make good platforms.

Annas linens has lace doilies and placemats on sale right now! Like $1 pp when you price each piece out?

I almost did it, but I need to dye mine black before I can use them.
