What did your officiant read from?

Gen, on January 8, 2019 at 4:24 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 8

So my brother is officiating our wedding, and I can't believe this hadn't occurred to me before. What does the officiant read off of, especially if it's a friend or relative who isn't a real "minister" but is ordained and performing your ceremony lol. I feel like having him read off a piece of paper will look tacky? But should I buy him a notebook? A binder? What did your officiant read from?

And while I'm at it, what did you all use to have your self-written vows on too? I was thinking maybe just an index card or something? I've seen those little "vow books" and those are cute and all but they look like they will end up having so many blank pages at the end, and also they all look way too expensive to be worth it to me. But my FH has terrible handwriting (like he can barely read his own writing lol) so having it typed is probably best for him at least!

Ive seen a variety of things from a binder to an iPad. Our denomination has a book with all the difference ceremony officiant stuff in it so, that's what ours will use.

As far as vows go, type them up, fold them up, and hand them to your MOH/BM to hold on too until its time to read them. Don't waste the money. The dollar store/marshalls/tj maxx/etc have little journals and notebooks too. I wouldn't think too hard about it and def don't spend a small fortune.

One of my friends said to give the officiant some kind of notebook/portfolio. She had a friend do their wedding, and she said it did look a little odd for them to be standing there reading off a piece of paper.

I'm going to type up my vows for my uncle to read. It's up to him whether he wants to bring his Bible and kinda set the paper in there to read.. or I will probably buy something..but not sure what either. I worry about a glare from an iPad so may just get him a nice notebook or...something.

Ours had a piece of paper he read off of and he used a wine barrel as a type of podium. We read our vows off a piece of paper. We typed them up and our officiant held onto them until it was time.

I sent ours the ceremony and he wrote it in a journal that he carried. I caved and bought the little vows book on Amazon. I thought it would be fun, years later, to have our handwritten vows saved in a book.
