What do you call your future in-laws?

What do you call your future in-laws? Are you still in "Mrs. Doe" territory, or do you call them by their first name? Do you call them mom and dad? It can be such awkward territory to navigate - especially if they haven't gone out of the way to say "please call me ____"! Photo by Jose Villa...

I have always called them by Mr. & Mrs. Last Name, after the engagement they ask to be referred to as mom & dad- which is fine with me. But now in conversation I find myself alternating at times between Mom/Dad & Mr./Mrs!

What is funny, is both FH's mom and my mom have the same first name-Kristyn! So I was def. never comfortable using her first name.

I would respectfully ask them what they would prefer you address them by. Then everyone is comfortable.

First names. No one around here says Mr or Mrs, even as kids everyone calls their friends’ parents by their first names. And I definitely wouldn’t call her mom, that’d be too weird for me!

I use their first names. My fiance actually uses his own parents' first names too just because he thinks he's clever.

I call and will continue to call them by there first names. FHs family is weird, and he and his brothers sometimes refer to his parents by their first names. So I don't feel so weird doing it. His mom calls herself g'ma to my nephew (which doesn't make any real sense), but I assume she will self proclaim herself as mom or momma c, and I will just go with it and not let it annoy me or correct her.

My mom called my dad's parents , Grandma First Name and Grandpa First Name (my parents had their first child 9mos after marriage, so i assume it was always this way), but my dad called he parents by their first names, so their is no consistency.

I cal FMIL “momma” and FIL “pops”. It started as a joke, but I like it because they’re different names then what I called my parents. I’ll have children differentiate their grandparents with different nicknames.

I think this is cultural as well. In my Chinese culture, we would be calling each other's parents "mom" and "dad."

However, my in-laws aren't Chinese; and thus far, I've called them by their first names. I think that's probably how it'll continue unless they ask for something more intimate.

I call them by their first names but my FMIL called me her "daughter" on Mother's Day and it made me feel really happy so I could see myself getting to place of caking them Mom and Dad

I just call my future MIL by her name or I call her Ma, it just depends on what my heart feels to say lol. His dad will be called by his middle name that most people call him by. He calls my Ma Mrs "first name", and My Pops Mr. "first name".

But my MIL does the same, she'll call me daughter sometimes or by my first name.

My FH and I have children and we are so used to saying “Nana & Grandpa” because of the kiddos that it just kind of stuck. Same with his sister and brother in law-we call them “Aunt Heidi & Uncle Eric”.

We do the same with my side as well. My mom is “Nana” and my sister is “Aunt BB”. Fortunately for me my grandparents and I are very close so we call them “Papa and GiGi”

Its kind of funny when it’s just the adults around and we still refer to each of them as that. LOL

She wants me to call her mom but I never really have to say her name/mom so I haven't really tested that out lol. She wants my son to call her mema though

A mix of both! I call her "Mrs. Tina" because Mrs last name is too formal and just Tina is too informal!
