What do you include in your budget?

I've noticed when talking wedding budgets, some people are throwing weddings for what they say are $3k or $10k or $30k. I've noticed when talking wedding budgets, some people are throwing weddings for what they say are $3k or $10k or $30k. Then, they'll say something along the lines of "but that doesn't include (insert substantial costs.)"This really throws off what it seems like you can throw a wedding for price wise.

I'm including everything when I talk about budget - rings, flights back and forth to where I'm getting married during planning, rental cars, cc annual fee, wedding rings, stuff I bought for the wedding but didn't end up using, etc etc etc.

So what about you? What are you including in your budget? It seems like all of these blogs showing supposed $10k weddings are creating a false picture when people probably spent a good $30k or their family is in the business so they're getting expensive pro services for free.

Similar to others, I'm including everything except the rings and honeymoon, since we aren't taking a honeymoon. My budget is $7-8k for 50 people. This includes DIY centerpieces ($300 included in budget to cover) and my aunt is doing our cake which saves us $200-300. We are having a small wedding party ( just MOH and BM). Our budget does cover makeup for MOH and new tie for BM but they are covering their own attire.

I include everything, not just what I paid. If someone were to throw a similar wedding under similar circumstances, it would be about $X dollars. If I magically had pro friends and family paying for everything, it still cost someone money so $X is what the wedding cost and $Y is what I spent. I definitely think people should total up bridal party costs, not just what their portion was toward their own wedding.

We didn't include our rings, honeymoon, my dress, and not all the decor. My mom and I where buying decor items every time we saw a good deal over the 2 year engagement. If we where paying for the whole thing ourselves then we probably would have included everything. But my parents gave us $X amount and then I decided we would pay for my dress outside of there budget so we had a separate budget for this. Our honeymoon was a gift so budgeting was never necessary.

    OP- cc annual fee?

I disagree with you on that one, that isn't part of your wedding budget.

The rest of it, any actual wedding expenses, are part of the wedding budget.

I am not including honeymoon or my rings (they were purchased before we were engaged), we will see about his. Everything else comes out of the budget; stamps, alterations, bathroom baskets, craft supplies, vendors, etc.

I'm not including rings, honeymoon, alcohol, invites, or photographer. Those are the things we'll be paying for on our own. My father is footing the bill for everything else- venue, food, dress (which was bought before the budget was set), rentals, DJ, hair for me, and anything else for the day of. FILs are doing the rehearsal dinner.

I basically included everything, including rings and honeymoon. We had to pay for all that, so I didn't see why I wouldn't include it in my budget.

Everything is included in our budget, including the rings. Honeymoon is not because we are probably just going to go on one next year. At that point it'll just come out of our regular budget we have for travel.

The only thing I paid for with my own money (outside of the budget) were my shoes because I am horribly indecisive and bought 3 pairs lol. But of course I can wear those many times.

@Jacqui, I included the cc fee because we weren't going to renew our Amex platinum but when we decided on a date, we sprung for it another year ($475) because of Amex lounge access as we're doing a lot of flying back and forth for planning. If it wasn't for the wedding, we wouldn't have renewed it.

We're mostly just including day of costs, venue, food, entertainment, etc. I've tried to estimate costs for everything else though so that I have a pretty good estimate of the total budget. I haven't calculated the exact amount, but I have a good idea of how much we're spending. I'm not including anything that can be, for lack of a better term, re-used. For example, I am not including rings because we'll be wearing these daily after the wedding. I'm also not including my wedding shoes because I'll be wearing them again after the wedding. So although these things are purchased to be used during the wedding, their purpose is not solely for the wedding, so it seemed ok to me to leave them out of the budget for us.

I also find it interesting when people don't include their rings into their budget.

I included Everything that had to be bought/paid for that was related to our wedding. The only thing I do not include in our budget is Honeymoon. I honestly don't even know why I never included that in our overall budget, maybe because we take several trips a year as is, so we would be using that money for a vacation regardless, this one just happens to be the length & cost of two of those trips in one lol

We don't include honeymoon, because that isn't part of the wedding.

I tried to include everything from stamps, to the rehearsal dinner, to the rings. The only thing that FH and I aren't paying for ourselves is our honeymoon. FFIL is paying for that, which is absolutely amazing! That's why I didn't include it. By the time our wedding rolls around we will have been engaged for over 3 years. I had wanted to keep out budget around $12k, but weddingwire budget says it's around $19k (not including that honeymoon). Yikes (clearly I'm not the master planner I thought I was, lol)... Luckily we've paid off about $10k at this point.

We have a separate budget for rings, so that's the only thing I don't include in our wedding budget. We are going on our honeymoon straight from our DW location, and are saving for the wedding and honeymoon at the same time, so I consider the honeymoon to be part of our overall wedding budget. I have one master spreadsheet that details out every expense, down to the smallest of things like cab fare to the airport. We are paying for 100% of our wedding and honeymoon, and use a joint account for our expenses. We also each have a small separate budget for things we've decided to pay for out of our own individual accounts, like gifts for the bridal party or new clothes and things we want for the honeymoon. I have a separate section on my spreadsheet that details out those costs too.
