What do you include in your budget?

I've noticed when talking wedding budgets, some people are throwing weddings for what they say are $3k or $10k or $30k. Then, they'll say something along the lines of "but that doesn't include (insert substantial costs.)"This really throws off what it seems like you can throw a wedding for price...

Then, they'll say something along the lines of "but that doesn't include (insert substantial costs.)"This really throws off what it seems like you can throw a wedding for price wise.

I'm including everything when I talk about budget - rings, flights back and forth to where I'm getting married during planning, rental cars, cc annual fee, wedding rings, stuff I bought for the wedding but didn't end up using, etc etc etc.

So what about you? What are you including in your budget? It seems like all of these blogs showing supposed $10k weddings are creating a false picture when people probably spent a good $30k or their family is in the business so they're getting expensive pro services for free.

We thought we included almost everything, but turns out we didn't and little things are popping up like postage, the garland we want to add to our florist order, candles we want to put everywhere, decor for the welcome table, etc.

We had a number we didn't want to go over though and we haven't hit it yet...$1200 under that one. lol

We included everything except rings, honeymoon, and gifts for our BP.

I don't add the honeymoon or my dress into my budget because we set a separate budget for those things. Plus, I really don't think the average inquiring mind is thinking about the brides dress when they ask about the cost of the wedding. Unless of course they are planning one themselves, then I include everything.

I think it needs to include everything but the rings and honeymoon. That being said I'm not tracking that closely. If I included everything from engagement ring through the honeymoon I don't even what to think about how much is spent cause I'm sure it's astronomical

Not including rings/honeymoon. My ring I will wear every day for the rest of my life. We're not sure when/if the honeymoon is happening so I'm not including that either. I'm just including stuff that is just for that day...

I include everything but rings and honeymoon. I'm sure there will be something I forget to record but my total budget is $10,000 tops and I have some wiggle room still (saving it for last minute expenses). I have no family in the biz and have no special discounts. Smiley smile

Our budget includes pretty much everything but the honeymoon and the rehearsal dinner. My parents generously gifted us a certain sum of money, and we are paying for everything else from that amount. The honeymoon we are paying for separately, and my fiance's family is covering the cost of the rehearsal dinner.

The rings and honeymoon- and food tasting via dinners we did when we were just planning to do a reception at a restaurant (small group of 25).

Everything else is included- okay- I didn't include the cost for my little centerpiece thing I made- or my mock bouquet- but the rest is all in there.

Included everything, rings, dress, caterer, venue, photographer, officiant, DJ, decor, rings, honeymoon, favors, etc. All for $6k (almost everything had veterans discounts).

Around $16k and it's making me sick :-/

Our moms are splitting the cost of the venue rental and catering (about 11k) and then we are picking up the rest.

Our official budget didn't include clothes or rings. My wedding band was purchased with my engagement ring, so I am purchasing his band, plus a plain one for me (the one he bought is beautiful, with five diamonds, but I can't wear it while doing fieldwork. The plain will be for the summer). I anticipate these being around $600, as he has really simple tastes.

We didn't include the dress and suit in the budget because we're paying for those out of our own, personal budgets, while the rest of the wedding is being paid for via a joint account we opened. We agreed that my dress cost was whatever I felt comfortable spending. He's contributing more to the wedding than I am, because he makes more, so when I bought the dress I made sure to consider whether I was being greedy/could buy a cheaper dress and put some more money into the joint account. I spent less than 1k on a dress, which I think is reasonable in consideration of the total costs, and I know he doesn't want to go over $300 on a suit.

We made a spreadsheet. So, at first, we have a budget that's just for a reception and then it has the total WITH honeymoon expenses. We didn't include my engagement ring because when we started planning, it was already purchased.

Furthermore, we have another spreadsheet that has all of the expenses we have for moving, and then a budgeting per month down to everything to factor in the extra expenses for wedding and new apt, even the new swim trunks he needs.
