What do you pay for a Hmua?

Ana, on February 19, 2019 at 7:06 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 18

I am curious as to what you are paying for your hairstylist and Makeup artist? I plan on paying for my girls to get their makeup done (not everyday makeup - more glamorous) and offering a hair stylist if they want. I want to know what price range to tell them the hair stylist will be.

A little info about the wedding: weekend destination wedding in the mountains of Colorado, 9 BM getting makeup, 2 MIL, and 2 brides. The make up artist would have to travel to us in the mountains. I can provide false lashes for the MUA, and extensions will be purchased before hand for those who want them in for the hair stylist.

I don’t want to discount someones service and talent, so I’m willing to pay what they charge, but have no idea what a good range is. All prices I find jump from $25/person to $200/person. Do HMUA give discounts for a large group of people? Do they offer a deal if they do both the hair and make up? Is travel an addition charge?

Any Colorado brides have a suggestion on who I should hire? We will be in the Lake George/Florissant area.

Thank you!

I'm in Denver and paying about $1k for 3 bridesmaids, my mom and my aunt. The package includes a trial of hair and makeup for me, as well as lashes (many studios don't include these, for some reason). They're not charging me a travel fee as my hotel happens to be very close to the studio.

I wasn't able to find anyone for under $1k that was affiliated with a studio. There are people on Thumbtack that may charge less, but I didn't want someone who did makeup on the side, I wanted a professional.

Google "bridal packages" and you'll get a lot of different options. It is definitely expensive! You can try not mentioning that the event is a wedding, but it'll be very obvious very quickly, I think.

I don't have a Colorado suggestion today but, tomorrow I may have one after I speak to my friend. However, my MUA is 250 for me (bride) and $75 per BM. She will charge if she has to travel beyond a certain distance. No discounts. Again, I will find out what my friend paid her MUA tomorrow.

This really depends on what you want (ex: simple curls or a French bun) and what hair types you are dealing with. For example, I have dreads. For me, the cost of certain styles will just be more because finding a loctician in that area sounds...challenging. Shop around and tell them your situation. Take notes to compare and go from there.

Also consider you’ve got a load of people. You will have to use a company with more than one person unless your hairstyle and makeup is really simple unless you don’t mind getting started early in the morning.

I’m paying 400 euro for hair and makeup for me. She will be doing my hair and makeup at 3am for our 6am pictures. Then she will return in the late afternoon for a touch up before our ceremony. It’s not a bad price considering the early start time. It would have only been $300 if I didn’t want the touch up. But I know there’s no way my makeup will still look fresh after all those hours

I am in Atlanta and am paying about $65 for each of my three bridesmaids for airbrush makeup + false lashes. Just for reference, my makeup is $125 (airbrush, false lashes, trial included). There is a travel fee for on-location but I am not sure what that will be.

Airbrush tends to be higher cost around here, and there are many more places that charge more than the one I picked. I saw some as much as $350 for bridal makeup and $115 for bridesmaids.

Our hairstylist is $1300 for two brides, 5 bridesmaids, two MOBs, and a jr. bridesmaid, so 10 people.
Our MUA is $600 for me, 3 bridesmaids, and two MOBs.

My hair and makeup is $250 since I’m the bride. For bridesmaids and mom price is $120 because is more than 5 girls but I don’t know if anyone accommodates for that. The prices ranges by a lot and yes depending on location and of course the team they bring. Some make up artist are solo so they subcontract a others to help with a large group while others have their own team. Travel fee are extras and for some you need to pay for accommodation and even food for the team. I would personally book a good make up and hair stylist in the area. It would get you the best team without paying for the extra travel fee. Spend the fee by taking a short trip to do trial for you.

I never wear makeup at all. The max I’ll pay for my wedding is $50 for makeup. For my hair, I will most likely go to my usual hairdresser.

Yeah it is! I’m not really looking forward to it but it’s the only way to get good pictures in Paris. The monuments get really crowded in the late morning and afternoon. If we go later we will have a lot of people in the way.

I’m in NJ and for my makeup artist is charging my bridesmaids $120, but for me (bride) it’s more expensive so $220 and my hairstylist is going to do our hairs & she’s charging them $90 and for me she’s charging $130 this doesn’t include tip- which I’ve heard you’re supposed to give to the hairstylist and MUA. As for the fee, it depends on how far they’re traveling. Sometimes they charge $1 per mile with going to the venue and returning back home. Others charge you depending on how much the uber/Lyft is going/and coming back home.

I did get a few quotes (like 7 or 8) and ended up working with a team that offers services in Colorado , Sedona and Florida . The company is called Devine beauty artists. Christy is amazing with helping you find an artist and very accommodating check them out on Instagram divinebeautyartistry they have beautiful Colorado brides postes all over. As for prices she will make some concessions for largers parties and mine ended up being $85 with lashes for bridesmaids (8 total) . I am in Sedona though. Good luck !

My MUA is charging $75 for my makeup and $50 for bridesmaids. I have my hair trial next month so I'll see what she'll charge. My hairstylist is also a friend so I may not be paying normal rates.

I'm paying $140 for bridesmaids & moms hair and makeup, and $240 for me. That doesn't include travel or tip. I'm getting married in Larkspur outside of Denver, we hired Brides by Rosanne!
