What happens when vendors don't show up?

Labake , on March 29, 2012 at 10:28 AM Posted in Planning 0 27

We all hope for everything to go as planned but they won't. I went to a wedding where the videographer didn't come. He called the bride the morning of the wedding from the ER and told her he wouldn't be coming. Someone went to best buy and bought a camcorder on the way to the church and played videographer for the whole day.

I assumed she got her money back but that still stinks.

Does anyone have any plan B’s put in place?

Something to think about though I hate to but it's reality, things happen. I don't have any plan B's.

I know Kimberly but you never know.

I've been having issues with my ceremony musicians. They just had a baby and I have a feeling if the baby even sneezes on the day of the wedding, they may just cancel. I'm having ipod music as backup.

I dont either Kimberly L. I dont have very many outside vendors but I hope that they come. I would be very upset if we didnt have a photographer or DJ.

I made sure that the photographer and dj have back up plans. We discussed it in our consultations.

Like Josie all our vendors had back-up plans and those were written into the contract.

While my DOC and caterer snucked, they also had back-up people who could do the job. Hmm, maybe the back-up was better. : )

Cate's photographer and DJ also have back-up. The photography studio is Michaels, in Bensalem, PA. It is actually owned by her FH's cousin. He is taking the getting ready and church pics, but having his staff take the photos of the reception, so his wife and he can enjoy their wedding. Her DJ also has a back-up person.

My mom, best friend, and DH all know who to call to take my place if I'm in the ER.

Most vendors have a back-up person(s). Ask your vendors, if it is not in the contracts.

I have back ups for the DJ and photographer. I do not have a back up for the

    ceremony musicians or MUA.

Guess it's time to talk about that with them.

Our videographer, photographer, and DJ all had stipulations in our contract that said if they can't show, they'd have a replacement. It made me feel better at the time, but really....they could still just not show up. I guess I haven't really thought about a plan B. Thank goodness for the iPhone. Camera and iPod in one. Done! LOL

My vendors have back-up plans written into the contract. I think the only time they are off the hook is if an act of god physically prevents them from doing their jobs or leaving the house, like if a tsunami hits Chicago on our wedding day. But if that happens, we're going to have bigger problems than videography. Smiley smile

I'm with Josie- back up plans were discussed with all our vendors prior to signing contracts.

My mom worked with one florist from a semi-larger florist company. The woman ended up quitting the week of her wedding in 1987 and didn't have much written down for notes. My mom got the wrong flowers and they made more bouquets than necessary, etc.

The DJ double booked and got paid more for the other gig he had so he sent a friend to DJ for him and the guy screwed up names and songs left & right.

That being said- my mom is paranoid about something happening at my wedding to she's pulling out all the stops and making sure there are back up plans B, C, and D. LOL!

Honey you made me remember - one of my friends had an issue with her DJ 2 weeks before the wedding. He just quit returning her calls/emails and didn't show up on the wedding day. Luckily she had a feeling he was going to no-show so she hired a replacement at the last minute. And then since she had paid his deposit on her Amex, she was able to get reimbursed and Amex went after him with collections.

Always always always pay your deposits with credit cards if you can!!!!!!! A lot of vendors aren't set up for that but we've been able to convince a few.

When my best friend got married it was a destination wedding, the day before the wedding the event planner she had been dealing with at the resort was "no longer an employee" lucky for her they gave her a new one and it went smoothly.

My other gf got married and all the wrong flowers showed up. We went to the grocery store bought flowers and made awesome bouquets.

The only vendor I would worry about is the actual reception hall and officiant.

Anything else can be remedied in a second.

(I bought an unbrella, that's my contingency plan)

My girlfriend is an awesome photographer so if mine cops out she I will just pay her dto do all the pics.

My friends are playing music for us...like 10 of them so if 5 don't show up we're still OK.

No cake... venue provides desert anyway.

    not too concerned.

Our photog has a back up- our catering company is a school so I would assume even if one person was sick other people could still make it. It's not like there is only 1 chef.

Flowers are all DIY so as long as they arrive in time it's fine- if not we are going to the public market to buy ones for the bouquets the day before anyways, so we could just pick up more for centerpieces.

We are renting sound equipment and having our own ipod with a friend of ours manning it in exchange for his travel expenses being paid. I'm a little worried about the rental equipment, but i haven't seen/signed the contract with the company yet so I'll see if there is something built in. If something happens and our friend doesn't show it won't be the end of the world- just find someone else to do it. Though he would be giving us our $ back.

The biggest problem will be musicians/dj not showing. I think we might go with the ipod back-up as well. Not that we don't trust our vendors, but it never hurts to be prepared!

You need to have a contract and make sure if for any reason one does not show up she/he has a back up!
