What have your experiences with the infinity/convertible bridesmaid dresses been?

OurAdventureBegins, on July 8, 2016 at 11:43 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 21

Hi ladies,

I'm looking for anyone who has worn or used the infinity dresses that are everywhere. One of my bridesmaids in considering buying one so I am looking for opinions about them.

Thank you!

ETA: words - I did not make coffee this morning....

I was in a wedding 2 years ago and all the bridesmaids used them. It actually worked out great because we could use the style that looked best on us but still be in the same dress. I actually have used the dress again since then because I love it so much.

I haven't dealt with one but there's been a lot of posts on here from women who struggled with them because of lack of ability to wear a supportive bra and the fabric being too clingy.

I had them in my wedding and also wore one as a BM this summer. I love them because they can be tied to flatter any size. I had just had my daughter two weeks prior and needed full coverage but, also an easy way to feed. These were great.

Thanks for your input guys! I was expecting more negative reviews.

OGJaci - do you know who the seller on Etsy was? The tube top additions is a great idea to make them easier to wear with a bra.

    - They flatter no one. They show every single lump and bump. Definitely will need shapewear but even still bra and panty lines may show.

    - They are harder to tie than they seem! Remember when you see it on the models, a professional stylist did that. Be prepared with safety pins, double-sided tape, etc.

    - Wrinkles.

    Wow, thank you @OGJaci

@annakay, that is more along the lines of what I was expecting. I would think a slip and shape wear would need to be in order

@annakay I think most of what you said depends on how well it was made and the fabric. All dresses made of thin cotton blend will show your panty line cling to your skin and have wrinkles.

I have one I bought for a cruise and I love it. Some of the styles are complicated but there are some super easy ones if you are not doing it your self. Mine is short and has a attached "slip".

I watched many bridesmaids struggle with them. They are not flattering to the bust, that is for sure.

I'm using the versa convertible mesh dress. My girls are sizes 0-22 and it looks good on all of them. A lot of the convertible dresses that are popular are a jersey fabric. That's a horribly clingy fabric. I'd suggest going with mesh/chiffon. If you watch tutorials on how to tie them you can find a good way for any bust size to stay on them without pins. I've gotten fairly good at tying them.

I bought one to wear as a guest to a wedding and I will be wearing it for my rehearsal dinner tonight. I bought a matching bandeau and was able to wear a bra with it. I got it off etsy and the bandeau was only $2 extra. https://www.etsy.com/listing/287506983/navy-bridesmaid-dress-infinity-dress

I'm wearing one in a wedding next month. The fabric quality is not so great. Most photos of the dresses on Etsy are done with very generous lighting making the fabrics look much nicer than they really are. I thought about going this route until I realized the fabric quality issue (I ordered fabric samples from 5 different vendors). Also, the bra problem is for real. Some vendors offer essentially a tube top of the same fabric for the dresses. I highly recommend getting those if you do indeed go the infinity dress route. I'm by no means busty, but that extra fabric will help cover and conceal not only the back and sides of my bra, but also helps make the dress look like it actually fits.

My BMs are going to wear Versa. Because it has a strapless top, they'll be able to wear a bra under it with no worries about it showing.

When shopping with one of my bridesmaids at Nordstrom she tried one on and it was the jersey fabric--they are very clingy. She's thin but the dress clung to her hip bones and in my opinion looked cheap. The mesh looks better in the pic @whitman posted. I like the idea though--as long as they are all tied properly and the bridesmaid doesn't end up looking like Hannah did when Marnie got married in Season 5

I chose a Jenny Yoo convertible dress for my bridesmaids who are all different sizes. They all look great in them, and they can wear a bra with them.

My girls are wearing the Versa. Every single one of them told me how much they loved it, and it looks good on all of their body types

AtomAttire on etsy is who I'm using. Those dresses have the option for a bandeau (tube top) and her prices are wonderful. I'm doing knee length dresses and they will be $42.50 plus shipping.

I had them for my wedding and the girls loved them. We used thejerseymaid on Etsy. The fabric was great, did not wrinkle at all.

The dress is lovely. The material is of good quality, you can see in the stitching. They were bought for my wedding, for my 4 bridesmaids. I look forward to seeing the styles the girls pick for the day! Also the colour is true to the images. Very happy with the dresses. Thank you infinitydress com
