What he doesn't know won't hurt him???

Laura, on February 28, 2010 at 2:53 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 15

I was watching some episodes of "Rich Bride/Poor Bride" and I was wondering if many couples act that way in real life. Specifically I find it so disturbing the way so many women on there spend money and lie to their FH about. I hope that most of it is being played up for TV but I really wonder if maybe that is the norm for most couples? They do stuff like say their dress was $500 when it was really $2,000 or book performers for $1,000 and "forget" to mention it to the groom. I could not imagine spending that kind of money and not including my partner in the decision, and worse LYING about it! Seems like a backwards way to enter into a union to me. Anyone else feel this way watching the show?

I'm with you it just seems wrong. No way that would work for us. I think it's appalling and would be furious if he did it to me so why would I do it to him?

I completely agree with you. It is definitely backwards! I couldn't imagine spending that kind of money either. Especially without including my future husband. I like to watch the show to get ideas for my own wedding and my sisters wedding but I can''t believe what they put there partner there on that show!

I agree that is wrong but I think it is played up for tv. The entry forms admits they are looking for couples with differing views on the wedding. I think its just the T.V. people doing it. I hope so at least.

I bet a lot of it is played up and exaggerated on tv. I can understand not mentioning something because you don't want to start a fight though. For example, if you go get your hair and makeup done on the day of wedding, and he knows that you're doing it but doesn't ask the price, why volunteer it to him? If he does ask though, don't lie.

Actually, I know a girl that does this to her boyfriend on a smaller scale. Every time we go out together, she always ends up buying herself new clothes and makeup and says, "I'll just tell him you got it for me as a gift."

Wow that so dishonest. Its the little things that count imo so I would never lie about stuff like that. If he found out then he would not trust me at all. We understand that we have personal needs and would not lie about things like that. I do joke to him that I need make up and stuff so he doesn't leave me for a 18 year old. lol... but seriously I would be mad if I found out he lied about little things.

Im opposite.. I ask Him about everything I get Before I get it. lol. He watches the bridal shows with me ( ya he says he hates it but I know he loves it lol ) and sometimes he tells me how rediculus the grooms are...he is funny.

I don't watch tv so I've never seen these shows, but I do agree that lying is never a good way to start a marriage. I always discuss big ticket items with Fh before we buy them and as far as small things go, I tell him about most of them and if he asks I tell him what I spent on it, but with some of it I don't tell him if he doesn't ask. I know he notices if I buy some new makeup or a book or something, but he doesn't really care about the occasional $10 purchase.

FH and I keep our finances combined and transparent, minus a little bit of spending money in each pay period we put in separate accounts to spend on whatever we want no questions asked. He would find out sooner or later if I spent the money, so why lie? But at the same time, why would I spend money that we didn't agree to spend and risk ruining the trust that binds us together?

I like Rich Bride, Poor Bride, cause it really helps me think about what you can get for your money... the women though though drive me nuts! I like watching it with my fiancee cause he always says, "Why are they getting married!?!?!" I know we are both conservative with our money, so i think no matter who picks what, it will be a reasonable deal

I've never seen it. Is it cable?

My DH would find out eventually and I would feel guilty about it anyway for just one day...when there are so many other priorities to us.
