What helps you sleep the night before your wedding?

This may sound silly, and my wedding isn't until September but I have a lot of anxiety surrounding whether or not I'll be able to sleep the night before! I don't function well without sleep (who does right?) and I want a good nights sleep before the wedding to feel and look my best. How have people...

How have people slept in the past with all of the excitement and nerves?

I have a ton of trouble sleeping when I'm nervous. I didn't sleep a wink before any law school exam, the bar, or any morning flight. Lately I've been using eucalyptus and lavender essential oils. I rub it on my wrists and even a little under my nose. It sounds like hocus pocus but it really works.

This might be extreme but I planned an evening wedding party for this reason as well. When I know I have to get up early, I don't sleep well. Knowing I won't have anything to do until noon will help me rest.

Booze! Lol! Kidding...kind of. I don't think I'll sleep much. I'll be too excited.

I've been nervous about this, too. For about 2 seconds, FH and I considered not spending the night before the wedding together, but quickly nixed that idea since our presences are soothing to each other. I will probably take melatonin - not that it usually does me much good - and maybe weed.

If you are thinking of taking Ambien, try it beforehand. It doesn't work for me!

Our venue mandates an evening wedding, which is less than ideal for a lot of our guests. But one huge perk is that I can sleep in! Knowing I have to get up early + wedding nerves = a recipe for bad sleep.

I work nights and sleeping during the day is hard for me. Unisom is a LIFESAVER. I wake up initially tired but once I start moving I feel great. Also helps me on the nights I have insomnia.

One glass of wine, melatonin, and listening to this podcast called Sleep With Me - it's a guy just rambling for an hour. I listen to it all the time now because I have horrible insomnia, and I only make it about halfway through before passing out. Listen to the podcast a few times before the big day though, you might find it distracting but it works incredibly well for me.

Not silly at all. I'm the same way and probably won't sleep.

In my State, recreational weed is legal, and I partake from time to time when I'm overly stressed/anxious. It helps me relax, makes me sleepy, and I wake up just fine.

I'll add that I am experienced, and do just a tiny amount. I wouldn't recommend if you are not experienced. You might wake up feeling like crud.

I'll most likely be smoking weed the night before. It always makes me so relaxed that I fall right asleep.

ETA I smoke weed everyday so I know how I react to it. Don't do anything if you don't know how you'll react.

I was tired from the day already. Also, I forgot my allergy medicine at home (stayed at hotel) so I took a bendryl which definitely helped me fall asleep. It was waking up at 5 am and not being able to fall asleep that was tougher on me!

I've invited my MOH to stay in my suite with me the night before. I want to head up by 8pm from our meet and great and relax. I'm worried I won't be able to sleep as well

I didn't get much sleep the night before(or even the week before). Didn't feel tired at all that day. However I crashed hard the first two days of honeymoon.

I'm never able to sleep if I'm excited/anxious, no matter how tired I am. It's like my body knows if I need to be asleep, it keeps me up.

I would be really careful if you take any sleeping medicine. Test it out well before the wedding and see how it affects you. The last time I took sleeping medicine (and I took the regular adult dosage) the next morning I was so groggy I literally couldn't wake up long enough to get out of bed. I slept from 10pm until noon the next day.

I'm spending the night with my MOH the night before. My plan is to drink a couple glasses of wine- enough to make me relaxed but not enough to get drunk. Lol

ETA: the sleeping medicine I took was zzquil.

I'm taking a hot bath, popping my melatonin watching a long long movie in bed to help get me ready for sleep.
