Oh So, on May 6, 2011 at 11:47 PM Posted in Married Life 0 16

Is absolutely nothing!

That it takes a month! That I'm getting married june 5th and my appt is May 18th! Talk about no time!

That you really have to pay attention to side affects.

Excuse me for being a newbie.

What are you on and what are the side effects?!

Well I am about to go to my doc and get the Depo Shot because I want to shut my period off for the honeymoon. I am waiting to hear what my doc will say. I had a bad experience when I went on the pill to slow the flow of my period. After about a year it was like I went into early menopause. I lost the desire for sex, my brain started being foggy, night sweats and dry vagaina. I had to finally come off because I just coudln't stand the brain fog. I didn't realize just how much I lost my sex drive until I got off the pill and it came back. BUT...this was after over a YEAR on the pill. I don't think it will affect you like that initially. Your doc will tell you.

Nuva Ring. Hands down the best BC out there for me. I tried pills and all that crap but I've been with the Nuva for a few years now and I'm never going back!

You only have to think about it once or twice a month compared to every day on the pill. And the pill should be taken at the same time every day in order to be most effective. I couldn't do that because my schedule is all over the place. Sometimes I work early mornings, sometimes I work late nights, I just wouldn't be able to find a time in the morning or at night to take it every. single. day.

Do some more research - use the search bar on the main forum page (it's on the right) to search for more threads like this. There's usually a new BC thread posted at least every week.

Know that the patch form of BC has quite a bit of bad history - there are even lawsuits going on regarding it and the high risk of blood clots. The shot can make you gain weight so you may want to refrain from that right before your wedding.

Each person is different and you won't know how you react to it until after you've been on it for a little bit. Some of us notice a drop in sexual desire on BC, so that's something to be concerned about as well. What is one lady's miracle BC might be your hell BC. Talk to your OBGYN about what s/he recommends and let them guide you through the crazy maze of all of the BC.

    Good luck!

I have mirena which is WONDERFUL, but wouldn't be good last minute like you're doing Smiley smile and as the others have said, a month isn't long to find out how your body takes it, since everyone reacts differently. I'm sure people will tell you "this is good!" "NO!! that sucks!! it was awful!" contradictions about all of them due to this Smiley smile I agree, talk to your OBGYN, at least choose a safe one that'll do the trick for your big day, even if you decide shortly thereafter to switch to something else.

What you also may not know about birth control: It can take more than a month for birth control to be effective. Some birth control methods are more effective for certain women than others.

Depo can have breakthrough bleeding for the first three months. Those three months/no period pills (ex. Seasonique) also have instances of breakthrough or continuous bleeding (in my case). The cyclical pills (ortho tri-cyclen) can kill sex drive in some women.

THERE ARE LOTS of side effects to birth control, I guess is what I'm saying.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE birth control, have been on it for almost a decade. It has some great side effects too. Some can clear up facial acne, others lighten your period and make cramps bearable, some stop your period for three months or more (after the initial cycle).

One month before is pretty iffy as to whether it will be at full effectiveness. My MD said wait 2 - 3 months on a new oral BC method. AKA - USE back up (condoms and spermicide).

I tried the pill didnt like it at all I always forgot to take it on time etc. i had the patch which it irritated my skin i had bad headaches. I also had the depo shot which I loved better than all of the ones I was on. I used to get it in my stomache the bad part about that is I started gaining weight in my stomache area so I stopped it. No BC is needed now bc i got my tubes tied now which I regret b/c now I want another child may sound crazy but I do my and FH have 3 and I want another boy these 2 girls a mess lol

I'm with raptor bride, I'm on the generic for loestrin and I haven't noticed any type of side effects. Smiley smile It took a lot of experiementing to finally choose loestrin, but I'm glad we finally got there!

I initially wanted BC to lighten my period. Started out with regular BC, but that didnt help. Yaz completely stopped my periods, which freaked me out. So now, we're at loestrin, which as it sounds, has lower estrogen in it, and its been working great in that aspect. I still get cramps/lower back pain during my period though.

I'd be a little careful though because I'm not sure if it will be fully effective before your wedding. Good luck!

I can't do BC, I got pregnant with both of my kids on a strict BC schedule.

If you are trying to delay ur period for the wedding drink ginger tea, if you are wanting to use it as birth control, get an IUD.

    I obviously didn't do too well in that department since we already have a daughter. ; }

Now I'm just on a low-estrogen BCP since I'm nursing. My doc said to use an alternative for the first THREE months.

On Seasonique and absolutely LOVE IT! Yes this is my initial cycle (first 3 months) so I've had some experience with breakthrough bleeding this past week (which sucks) but I can tell it's coming to an end ... absolutely no weight gain (in fact lost 5 lbs since I started) whatsoever and when I was on yaz, I was on it 1 month and blew up 10lbs immediately ... and then the weight kept piling on and piling on ... went off of it after about 1 year ... relied on condoms, did that for oh 4 years, decided what the heck let's give birth control another shot ... so I did and so far minus the breakthrough bleeding (though its so light, I can still engage in sex comfortably) seasonique has been amazing ...

My emotions are finally leveled off ... I don't go off on people over the littlest things ... Ihonestly think Yaz really threw my hormones out of wack Smiley sad and now seasonique has kind of helped level them off more so than when I wasn't on anything ... everyone is different though.

I got pregnant with my daughter on seasonique (took it EVERYDAY), almost died from Mirena IUD, and the depo made me totally lose my sex drive. Now we just use condoms. The depo is still working it's way out of my system so it's kind of out of whack and I'm getting breakouts on my legs! Depo can also take up to a year and a half before you can become pregnant again. I was on it for a year, got off it in January, and still no period!

Everyone is different, but everything I have tried has either not worked, almost killed me, or made me lose my sex drive. So if it's just getting your period on your honeymoon you're worried about, pack a dark towel or 5 and throw them down before you throw down!

I'm on the pill - Kariva. I actually lost weight on it, and I don't get acne or anything from it. I take it every evening around 9 p.m. because when I first started it, I got a little dizzy/nauseous so it was easier to take it close to bedtime and sleep through the effects. That was only the first few weeks, I've never had another problem.

Best tip I ever got: set an alarm on my phone for every night at 9 so that I never forget to take it. Even after 3 years I have my alarm set!

Can you call them up and get the first available appointment to help you get going sooner? If they're full, ask them to call you if someone cancels.

Mrs. B. I was getting ready to post a similar question. You beat me to the punch! I hope you find something that will work for you before your wedding! I just realized that I'm going to have my period smack int he middle of my honeymoon! I was reading about the Mini-pill but couldn't find a brand name associated with it. Has anyone had any experience with the mini-pill?
