Cash can definitely be more convenient at times!

It depends on the couple. For most people I give cash, and for close friends or family I'd add a small personal gift as well. There's a few exceptions, like my dad's wedding where it would be weird giving him money, so I bought off the registry.

With close friends and family, you definitely have an advantage in being able to buy them something personal!
