Hello everyone, I was hoping to hear what everyone's splurge item/purchase/hire is regarding your wedding and your budget (should you have one).

I knew going into the beginning of our wedding planning that we wanted to splurge on the photographer. That our photos would be our big ticket item. We have older family members that wont be around much longer and we wanted to make sure the photos that we do get are amazing and will last us a lifetime because we can't go back and recreate them later with everyone there.

What did you guys pick as your big ticket items?

😅 haven’t actually seen anything of it yet. It’s being custom made for me, so all I have is a really rough sketch and the vision we walked through.

Our biggest splurges so far are our venue and photographer!

We've been really lucky with finding vendors that don't cost and arm and a leg, so that's helped us a lot! We knew we for sure wanted to spend money on a good photographer though, because those photos, along with our video, will last a lifetime. That was an area we didn't want to go cheap on.

Our venue was the top of our list on price, and we still got out spending A LOT less than we would've at other venues. It was a hidden gem that we found at the perfect time.

Photography was my splurge as well and I'm so glad it was! Our photographers killed both the wedding day and our adventure shoot. I had allocated a few thousand for the photographers from the offset, but went over that to book the husband/wife team that I did and it was worth every penny (and more!).

Well, we didn't get to have the wedding we had planned for due to COVID (and not even Plan C due to CA wildfires), so a month after our wedding day, my husband, photographers, and I traveled up to Yosemite for a photo shoot. It involved some hiking and was out in nature, so we called it our post-wedding adventure shoot. Typically the adventure shoots I've seen take place in a location that requires some "adventuring" to get to (hiking, kayaking, helicopter/boat to a remote location, etc). It allowed us to have a chance to get all dressed up again and take all the pretty pictures we wanted without a time constraint. I'm playing with the idea of doing an adventure shoot for our big milestone anniversaries (5, 10, etc.) just to keep the magic alive because of how well it went. Here are a couple of favorites from that shoot:

A lot of it was people guessing their guest count and had family cooking instead of getting an actual count. And when you have family who never cooked for a large group it can be hard to get a correct amount of food. Congrats and good luck to you as well.

Our splurge was our dj. He is without question the best around our area and does fantastic uplighting, projected monograms, special effects, etc. We paid over $3,600 (live in a low cost-of-living area) but knew he was one of our “must-haves.”

So far I would say my biggest "splurges" have been for Photography and then for Decor/Rentals. About 1/3 of my budget went to decor/rentals but it's still a pretty good deal as it also includes florals, officiating and day of coordinating. However since we are getting married at a campground we only had to pay less than $300 for the venue and we aren't having music outside of a portable speaker. Really looking forward to the aesthetics of it in the beauty of nature!

Our biggest splurges were a fancy venue, top notch food/drink, and a 9-piece live band.
