What is your transportation plan for guests?

Michelle, on May 17, 2024 at 3:00 PM Posted in Planning 0 5
Do you come from a social circle where the couple automatically feels the responsibility to provide transportation to guests even if they have their own? As is also the current trend in social media and the wedding industry. Or does your social circle lean towards guests arranging their own transportation and leaving how and when they wish, be it an Uber, carpool, or designated driver in their own rental or personal vehicle?

I don’t think anyone I know has one homogeneous social circle between friends and family, many of whom also live at a distance. We’ ve attended plenty of weddings where transportation was provided and where it wasn’t. It’s a generous option and some people consider them an added safety measure, but it’s not obligatory.

The only time I’ve ever heard of providing transportation was having a shuttle from the recommended hotel for the out-of-town guests. And that’s only if there are a lot. Otherwise, I’d fully expect everyone to be responsible for their own transportation.

Maybe if you have your reception in an “off the grid” location? I went to a wedding where it was time to go home and literally nobody could leave because they couldn’t get rides out on Uber, Lyft, taxi services etc.. That was disastrous and probably ended up costing the bride & groom more money for going over their time. But otherwise you shouldn’t have to pay for transportation - but it’s a nice gesture for people that you really want there wedding party etc…

I would say most couples do not provide transportation to and from their wedding. The only exceptions are typically a shuttle to and from a hotel for out of town guests and/or destination weddings. I’ve also seen couples provide a transportation option for guests that need a sober ride home.

At weddings where there are many out of towners, this has become normal in my experience. I've also attended several weddings that were more remote where we wouldn't have been able to call an Uber. Typically a shuttle from the main hotel to the venue and back is common in my experience (again, if the majority of guests are not local).
