What makeup is possible without full coverage?

Hi! For info, I don't usually wear makeup, but sometimes I put on mascara or lip gloss. I don't really know how to do makeup so I'm more confident without it. I like wearing it when my friends have done it for me in the past though. I will have my makeup done for the wedding, and I had the trial at the salon yesterday.
I felt uncomfortable with full coverage makeup. The artist did foundation and light contouring and prominent eye makeup. She also penciled in my already defined/dark eyebrows and they looked too perfect. The foundation also made me look slightly tanner - I'm a pale person. I didn't feel like it looked like my face anymore. (I am fine when other people wear full makeup. It's just when it was on me that I felt not confident). I didn't think looking like that would make me feel good on my wedding day. I want to look more like my style in the wedding photos, but I do still want to get my makeup done.
I really want the partial fake eyelashes, some eyeliner, light eye shadow, and mascara on my eyes. Then the color on my lips - the stylist did that really nicely. I'm hoping for some minimal coverage where I potentially have acne on the day of the wedding. My question is if I can have those things done without getting full face coverage and the contouring? Is that possible? For people who know more about makeup, what do you recommend? Or how can I ask the stylist to do "less"? I really appreciate the advice!

Hello! I totally get it. I’m a no makeup person myself (mainly because I suck at it lol). I went really light with my makeup. I picked an artist that does Airbrush foundation. I barely felt like I had anything on my face. It just made me feel “smoothed out.” I did partial lashes and very light eyeshadow and lipgloss. I think contouring makes you look less “flat.” Especially in photos. Which is why I wouldn’t say to go against it. It can definitely be a bit of an adjustment if you don’t wear makeup but I would just ask your artist to keep it on the light side! It’s still you! Just a slightly done up version lol

I also never wear makeup, and I told them I didn’t want contouring or anything like that because I wanted to look like me. They did use foundation, but minimal to just smooth things out (looks better in pictures). In my trial I had them start over because the first time I felt it was too heavy. Don’t be afraid to speak up and tell them what you really want!

Definitely speak up! Artists want to hear feedback after the trial so they know how to make you look great on the day of and feel confident. Perhaps tell her you though the foundation was too tan. I would advise not to reject contouring as photography will make you look very different, so you don’t want to risk looking “flat” as Taylor said. I also had airbrush done for my foundation and it was super light!

I heard airbrush is good if you don’t want full coverage
