What platform did you use for your wedding website?

Jacob, on January 12, 2024 at 12:02 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 3 14

Hey everyone!

As my fiancé and I are counting down the days to our wedding, we're diving into the world of creating our own wedding website. We're envisioning a unique space to chronicle our love story and keep our loved ones informed.

I'm curious to know: Which website tool did you use for your wedding, and how was your experience? Were there any platforms you particularly loved for their ease of use or unique features? Or any you'd suggest steering clear of due to hidden costs or complications?

Your personal experiences, suggestions, or any advice you could share would be incredibly valuable as we make our choice. Thank you so much for helping us out with your insights!

There's a lot of similar threads online, so i'll summarize a few good platforms:

    • Best Experience: Joy (was really simple in my exp)
    • Best interaction: SlashPage (if you're in tech its like Notion, but with community)
Best for Planning: The Knot (solid choices)
    • Best Variety: Minted (Interesting templates)
    • Best Customization Options: WedSites (Lot of options)
    • Best Design Templates: Bliss & Bone (High effort templates)
    • Best Free Website: Wix (Can't go wrong with it)

      DO nots:
Zola (My sister used Zola and it was a nightmare)

For my own wedding, i'm leaning towards using Wix or SlashPage. Wix, because lets face it-- it's the easiest and affordable! Im also considering this all-in-one tool SlashPage because i've seen my sister make a live chat on the site and it felt like a community. My last option is Bliss & Bones, but im not totally sure about it since I might be better off paying a professional at that point!

I used The Knot and found it very user friendly, email reminders are already templated and it's free! You can even make it password protected so people cannot look at it unless they have your pin/password which we liked.

We used Minted and didn't have any complaints/issues.

    Hi everyone!

A little while back, I asked for your recommendations on wedding website builders. Well, I’m excited to share my experience! After much deliberation, I decided to try out a few, including Joy, Slashpage, The Knot, and Minted.

I found Joy really user-friendly, which was a relief as someone who’s not too tech-savvy. Their templates were diverse, which was great, but it did take a while to pick the perfect one - decision fatigue is real!

Slashpage was an interesting experience. It allowed for a lot of customization, which I loved, but it also meant I spent more time than expected tweaking things. The interactive features like chatting with guests and letting them upload photos were super cool, although not everyone in our guest list might be keen on engaging online.

After the adventure, I decided to go with Joy for our wedding website. Its user-friendly interface and diverse templates resonated with me, even though it took some time to pick the perfect one. The simplicity and variety of Joy clicked for our website needs. But, I realized I also need a dedicated space for planning, so I decided to use Slashpage as my wedding planner hub. It provides a space where I can discuss with my wedding planner, friends, and family involved in the big day.

Just thought I’d share my experience for anyone in the same boat. Your choice should align with what you value most for your wedding website. Thanks again for all the advice earlier!

For planning, we found the pre-installed wedding planning template on GoogleSheets to be a lifesaver. A free spreadsheet of all the things you need to consider. We deleted anything that was not relevant to what we wanted, as we skipped many things that are considered “standard” or they are not customary in our social circles.

As for a website to share with guests, we didn’t use one. But if we did, we would go with Squarespace or Wix for complete customization because the premade sites didn’t fit our needs. Also a cousin and a best friend used Zola for websites for each of their (separate) weddings and not only did people not read them in favor of paper details cards and paper reply cards in the invitation packet, they experienced terrible service between trying to get assistance fixing glitches and the registry was a nightmare for the couples that the guests were not able to purchase from. Our guests thanked us after that experience for not having a website.

I decided to use the Wedding Wire Website. I did try Joy and another, but the Wedding Wire site for me was very flexible. Already received positive comments from guests who sent their rsvp.

I'm late to reply to this but could you ask why Zola was a nightmare? I ask because we just started our Zola site, but the wedding's not til the fall so we don't need a website yet and can switch if need be.

But so far we've found it user-friendly, but wanted to ask what happened with your sister in case there's a problem I should be aware of. Thank you!!

Hey there, there were rsvp and guest website issues, along with the registry which had glitched, causing a massive hiccup in my sister's wedding. Perhaps, they may have updated it now, but i wouldnt definitely not recommend it!

Thanks so much! Do you mind sharing approximately what year this was? If it was 5+ years ago I might not be too concerned but if it was in the last year or two I’ll have concerns, haha. Thanks for your help
