We are having a reading that is based off a song, then a poem that I wrote about my FH a few years ago that got published!

I know I want one of our readings to be "How Falling in Love is like Owning a Dog" by Taylor Mali. We have two dogs, so it's fitting for us!

My grandmother wrote a poem for our wedding which she read during the ceremony. Her and I are extremely close and she has written poems throughout my life so I knew it was the perfect I'd when my husband and I talked about having a reading. My husband isn't religious, but I still wanted some type of reading.

Awesome! What song is the reading based off of? And very cool that your poem was published! Sounds like such a meaningful poem to read at your ceremony!

Love this!! That is super sweet that your grandmother both wrote and read the poem at your wedding! That would be a fantastic poem to put in a frame.

We are each picking one. I’ve made my choucr already - it’s incredibly meaningful to me for lots of reasons, but it’s very old fashioned. What Readings Are You Doing At Your Ceremony? 2

I love the idea of each of you picking one reading! My fiance and I are planning on having two readings (still totally undecided on which ones), but I am going to suggest to him that we each pick one. Thank you for the idea! Very cool poem that you picked, even better that it's meaningful to you!

Thanks! I think he will love it too. Anne Bradstreet was a remarkable woman in puritan New England. Far ahead of her time. My FH often teases me that “you can take the girl out of New England, but not New England out of the girl,” it’s very much out inside joke now.

Awesome! Did you pick out the verses ahead of time? Or did you let your pastor pick?

I would like: Genesis 2:24, ESV: "Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. But my parents used that and they got divirced after 22 years of marriage. So, I'll have to find something else.

I picked them myself and they were kind of cliché. In a sense that they’re pretty popular so they get read often. But I really liked them:

1 Corinthians 13:4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud1 Corinthians 13:5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged.1 Corinthians 13:6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out.1 Corinthians 13:7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

If that's a meaningful verse to you, you could definitely still use it! It could be a way to re-associate positive memories to that verse. Otherwise, if you still plan to look for a different one, I'm sure you'll find one that'll be a perfect fit for your wedding!

Good choice! Those are certainly popular, though I totally understand why. Personally, I think they're perfect for a wedding!

My FH is a huge Bruce Springsteen fan and my whole family will be traveling to our wedding from New Jersey so we're kind of playing to our audience! Haha! For our reading we are leaning towards having the lyrics to "If I Should Fall Behind" by Bruce Springsteen read at our ceremony.

We said we'd walk together, baby, come what may
That come the twilight should we lose our way
If as we're walking a hand should slip free
I'll wait for you, should I fall behind wait for me

We swore we'd travel, darling, side by side
We'd help each other stay in stride
But each lover's steps fall so differently
But I'll wait for you, and if I should fall behind wait for me

Now everyone dreams of love lasting and true
Oh but you and I know what this world can do
So let's make our steps clear that the other may see
And I'll wait for you, and if I should fall behind wait for me

Now there's a beautiful river in the valley ahead
There 'neath the oak's bough soon we will be wed
Should we lose each other in the shadow of the evening trees
I'll wait for you, should I fall behind wait for me
Darling, I'll wait for you, and should I fall behind wait for me
Yeah I'll wait for you, and should I fall behind wait for me
I'll wait for you, should I fall behind wait for me
