What should i bring to my hair trial?

Gina, on July 25, 2021 at 1:07 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 5

I have some reference pictures and ideas of what I want. I think I want some kind of hair piece for my hair but I'm not sure if I want the comb style, pins, or more of a hair vine situation. Should I fine one I like and bring that to my trial, or is it better to see what the hairstyle will look like and then figure out which accessory will stay in my hair the best? I'm probably overthinking it but there are so many different bridal hair accessories that look just slightly different that it's hard to settle on one, but I'm sure I can pick one between my hair trial and the wedding. Any insight is appreciated!

I personally would get the accessories first so you can see how they look at your trial.

Get accessories first. You can find many inexpensively at Claire’s. Bring a number of inspiration photos you love. If the style you want requires extensions, they will have those on hand. Make sure you are 100% happy before you leave.

I agree. Get them first and bring them along so you can fiddle around with it with your hair person until you're happy.

I didn't bring anything to my hair trial except for inspiration photos from Pinterest. I didn't want to invest a ton of money in an expensive hair accessory before I knew what style I'd be going with! Once we determined which type of hair style I'd be going with during the trial, then I knew which kind of hair accessory to buy. Had I purchased my hair piece before the trial, then I would have been out a lot of money, because the trial determined that the style I originally had in mind wouldn't have worked with my hair. So I actually disagree with all of the PPs on this issue... my hair stylist actually contacted me before the trial saying that I should wait to buy the hair piece until afterwards, until once we settled on the style. I was very glad she did because she saved me from wasting $100 on a hair accessory that wouldn't have worked.

I think its best to get the accessories first, because they need to be secured in different ways and might impact the overall structure or look of your style.

For our elopement I had my hair professionally done and my hair was styled in a way that made it impossible to secure my veil without just plopping it on top, which looked awful, so I removed it shortly after the celebration so I could be "veil less" for the rest of our photos.

Accessories can be expensive, so I can see why you may want to wait until after your trial to purchase anything. If you do this, I would absolutely 100% have a conversation with your stylist about what accessories you are considering, what they think would look best, and any recommendations they have about what to buy or how to secure them (for example, they may say "this would look great with some hair pins but a full decorative hair comb would be too big to hide.")

It would not hurt to call your stylist and ask for their recommendation! It's possible they'll have some "demo" accessories you can try or might even have the option for you to purchase something you really love from them.

I DIY'd hair accessories for myself and they were pretty easy and inexpensive to make. It was great because I had a number of different options. I had also purchased a few decorative bobby pins and a barrette but my DIY designs were actually much better!
