Hey ladies, so my in-laws want to cook the wedding, but some other family members want the wedding catered. My in-laws don't want to spend more than $3000 is they are paying for the food at the wedding. What would you guys do? I suggested maybe doing the meat catered and let them cook the rest or do you think it will be ok to have them cook it all? My in-laws are also apart of the fire department so they do know how to cook the chicken and pulled pork because they have done it for fundraisers. This is my Menu for the wedding :

o bbq Chicken

o Pulled pork

o Mac & Cheese

o Salt potatoes

o Baked beans/ veggies

o Pasta salad

o Antipasto salad

Not upset, laughing. In citing Chipotle, you hit the chain most known and feared for what is in the food, for several years, nationwide. First norovirus in some states, then Salmonella, later e coli. Fast food and quick service seated dining are not for any but the brave and foolish, to me. But having traveled about the US, and northern Europe, most especially in rural areas, and in city ethnic enclaves where large group meals are still commonly home made, I have found that where it is routinely done, there are a lot of people in the population with loads of experience, and so it often rivals or is far better in food safety than many reputable restaurants and homes where people assume the food is sanitary ( and it isn't.). Perhaps because we are repeatedly feeding both our own family, and our own community, in areas where people don't move around much. Stay safe

I'm laughing as well. I'm quite perplexed that I bothered you so much to where you felt the need to ruffle feathers. You stay safe as well.

I'm sorry for giving my suggestion for cheaper catering options as chipotle. Judith was really upset and making fun of it. I'll pm you next time when asking for help.

In my personal opinion, I grow up with a lot of young couples getting married and they had members of their congregation cook at their reception. So they could save money. The food was always AWESOME! If you can get people to do it, and you save money. I say go for it!!!!

Maybe have them give you the 3k and use it towards food and you guys pay the difference.

Get on Google or Yelp in your area and look up local restaurants that cater. It shouldn't matter which cuisine (Mexican, Olive Garden, Chinese, Famous Dave's, just to list a few starting points). But $3K will easily a large group with tons of money left to spare. You aren't paying for the same wedding markups as a regular event caterer and you get more food too. You may have to hire serving staff though from thumbtack.com. But most super elaborate corporate catering (all you need is food, beverages, dishes/silverware/napkins, and a way to keep the trays hot or cold (and the restaurant could care less that it's a wedding instead of a business retreat) from a local restaurant usually don't cost more than $500 for 100 people and that is being generous.
