What should our guests "throw" as we walk back down the aisle?

Andrea, on May 17, 2013 at 5:30 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 18

I'm making these little pouches I found on a DIY website:

http://greenweddingshoes.com/diy-confetti-bag/

Butr haven't decided what to have people throw after we get married - eco confetti? Bubbles? Lavender and flower petals? I want something we won't have to pick up after and no to balloons, too bad for the environment. Any ideas? How do they look in pictures? We are getting married outside, on a lawn by the ocean.

Also - do guests know when to throw that kind of stuff or do we have to put a little tag or something saying what to do with it? Like "Spread some sparkle after Andrea and Ryan become Mr. and Mrs." or whatever. I'm picturing us walking back down the aisle and no one doing anything! lol.

Usually nothing is thrown until you leave the reception. It is a send off. If you want it at the end of the ceremony you may want to add a tag. We are doing eco-friendly party poppers as we leave the reception.

Yeah, I agree with Misty. We are doing a sparkler send off after the reception, but nothing else will be thrown after the ceremony!

BUT if you want to have them do it as you come back down the aisle, then go for it! I saw cupcake sprinkles on pinterest and thought that was really cute! There's also rice, confetti, birdseed, bubbles. I like the little saying you put up! Smiley smile

Also saw this and it might spark some ideas...

I thought about doing rose petals after the ceremony and bubbles after the reception. Check with your venue to see what is not allowed.

Note: I've hear people say the birdseeds hurt and were all down their clothes

I am doing bubbles as we walk back. Not sure if we will do a send off. Our wedding is in the morning and reception in afternoon so sparklers wouldn't work and can't do any confetti type stuff.

I think we are DIYing ribbon wands for the ceremony, and sparklers for the reception send off.

The beach balls would be perfect since you are by the ocean!!! You would have to pick those up but I bet it would be pretty easy! And you probably wouldn't need one for everyone.

We want to do a toss, but since we aren't going anywhere after the reception (on hotel property), we were thinking of doing the 'toss' as we walk back up the aisle as well.

I was thinking the poppers that shoot streamers. They would be easy enough to clean up, since the streamers themselves are so long. I just need to find some for a decent price.

I love sparklers. They are fun don't create a mess and loos so pretty in pictures. Especially on the beach.

I might lose an eye if my guest throw what I'm making them. I'm having ribbon wands with little bells. They can use it in lieu of glass clinking for the kisses as well.

At one wedding I officiated, the guests threw white feathers (of course, it is difficult to throw feathers very far).

I love bubbles! But the petals idea sounds good too.

New Mrs B: That happened at our wedding as well, so I made sure they all did the bubbles when we came into the reception.

Can you try sand? Or would that be too messy?

NO, DON'T THROW SAND! It will get in people's eyes.

@Out the Window, we are doing the ribbon wands also. I thought the same thing about the kiss. No clanking glasses : )

I know a couple who had sprinkles thrown between the ceremony and reception. It was a horrible idea.. the blue sprinkles got in her cleavage and lace of her dress. Stained it blue. So they had to try to hide blue spots in pictures and the rest of the wedding.
