What size is your dance floor?

Maui K, on January 25, 2017 at 1:52 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 8

What size is your dance floor and how many guests are you planning on having? I can't figure out what size dance floor I should rent. Some websites say to only get a dance floor that fits about 50% of your guests at one time, because not everyone will be dancing at once. But I feel like that is a really low number.

Ours is 16x16. 75-100 people. I would agree that only 50% of your guests will likely be on the dance floor at one time, unless your crowd is disproportionately a younger party crowd. Last wedding I attended had about 150 and I saw the same 30 people or so on the dance floor all night.

We are going to have about 55 guests, but I think a 12x12 dance floor looks really tiny. I am thinking a 12x16.

This is actually something random I kind of freaked out about Smiley smile I hate it when the dance floor is too small!!

Our dance floor was 24' by 24' with 175 guests in attendance. That was the largest I could fit and I thought it was still too small Smiley sad Thankfully there was open space on either side of the dance floor that everyone spilled onto as well!

Dang WWLynnie! Lots of partiers in your families Smiley winking

Maui - go for the 12x16 even if it will simply ease your mind.

@ Lynnie, where did you find your floor?

I need one that big because 100% of our 100 people are going to be dancing. They're all from a dance studio.

@MarryingMurray - the venue had it, I just had to keep saying "no - bigger!" Smiley smile

I'd try looking at rental companies:

Ours was 21 X 24. We had 140 guests. My friends and I used to teach ballroom so we wanted a good sized floor. It was packed the whole night. I'm so glad we rented. Our venue had a dance floor but it was only 16 X 16. That was way too tiny for us.

Our venue provides a 16x16 dance floor. It might be a bit much for us since we have less than 50 people but I guess I'd rather have the space to use than not have it and really need it? I do agree that 12x12 is really small, as another poster mentioned. Even for our small guest list I would have a hard time agreeing to one that small.
