What special touches are you adding to your wedding?

I'm curious to hear what others are doing for special touches at both the ceremony and reception.

Since the venue is usually a 5-6 hour deal and we are getting married in Nov. we had to go with an early start time on ceremony for day-light! So our wedding will basically be over by about 10. We had seen a venue that does some really cool "after" wedding options (I loved that venue but $$$$$&dollarSmiley winking so we have worked with the hotel we have room blocks at. For the wedding party only we will be going back and getting into something comfy!!!! The hotel will provide their bar/lounge are with a bartender and snacks (personal pizza, hot wings, etc.) We will bring the alcohol and cigars etc. This will allow us to enjoy our wedding without too many cocktails and go back and party it up with our wedding party Smiley smile It's a nice way to get to really spend time with wedding party Smiley smile

We're thinking about doing a "rope" ceremony to tie the knot, pretty cute. Also considering doing an indian tradition of showering the couple with a mixture of dif items (rice, pennies, small candies, dif stuff to represent different things in your life: wealth, sweetness, charity, etc) while we sit under an umbrella. I love both those ceremonies and can't decide if we want 1 or the other or both and if we do both if ppl will think we're nuts- which we are. Smiley smile I'm also jumping in the pool during my reception and 1 small favor is a mustache on a stick we're gonna set at each place setting w/a cute little card that tells each guest to be their own evil twin for the night and let loose.

We are including a wine box wedding ceremony in our ceremony. The details about it are here: http://www.celebrateintimateweddings.com/lovebox.html

I had never seen this done before so it seems unique, but it could be more common than I think. It seems more special to us and will give the ceremony a little something extra.

I play the violin, so I am currently trying to gather some people I am still in contact with from my hometown to form a strings quartet to play Pachebels Canon in D Major while I walk down the aisle instead of an organist. I thought that would be a nice touch since I play.

All of my bouquets were made by me Smiley smile

These are all such beautiful ideas.

We added a few touches to make our day feel like "us":

*old family photos on the walls, on the windowsills, everywhere there was empty space

*our menu was German and Polish family-style food

*we projected an old Ginger Rogers/Fred Astaire movie up on the wall opposite the bar

*FIL is in a polka band and they played a set at the reception.

*my dad is a pastor and he said the blessing over dinner

*my mom made one of her famous scratch cookie recipes and we packaged them up for favors.

*FMIL passed away before we got engaged. She loved polka dots, so I asked the florist to incorporate a tiny bit of polka dotted ribbon in all the floral arrangements - the bouts, bouquets, corsages, everything. It was a way to remember her in a sweet way without doing a memorial that made us sad. Smiley sad

Oooh and our place cards were cupcakes. I made little cards on lollipop sticks with the names and table numbers. Loved them!

I love all the special touches

We had a DW weekend in VT. We are riding enthusiasts, so it was biker themed.

    - Our welcome bags included all things one would put in a saddle bag, maple syrup, & a custom post card

    - After our welcome dinner, we had a drunken karaoke night.

    - OUr tables were named for destins we have traveled on our bike. Our guests chose which destination they wanted to sit.

    - Our officiant was the owner of our venue. He used some of his wisdom from the book, "Zen & Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" "My brothers & sisters of the wind.

    - Our cake was supposed to look like the ride to West Dover, VT. However, our topper, a couple on a bike was on the bottom, not on the top.

    - Cate sang "At Last". She promised to do this when she was 16 when I met DH.

-To honor our deceased loved ones, my bonus son & my BIL covered Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here"

    - We had a path joining ceremony that we wrote.

-Our guests had a wardrobe change - tropical attire.

We had quite a few...the "beach themed" centerpiece because he proposed at the beach, the venue (the aquarium) because we both love fish/animals..there were quite a few more but the most memorable were the penguin ring bearers I arranged for my penguin obsessed DH!

Special touches I'm doing for my December wedding

    1. Champaign served upon arrival at ceremony

    2. My bouquet is all red roses with three white roses. At the end of the ceremony I will hand my mother, my grandmother and my fiancé mother a white rosé.

    3. Instead of pictures of us on a table, I had our photos enlarged and printed on vinyl (6' x 2') and they will be in the corners of the room.

    4. Acapella singer sing raise me up for final prayer

    5. Cigar display on balcony for the guest

    6. Lotion, perfume, hand sanitizer, etc with custom labels in women's bathroom

    7. Because our wedding is a week before Christmas we did ornaments as our guest gifts and wrapped them like Christmas gift.

    8. On our seating arrangements, instead of their names we used their picture.

Hope you have a special day
