What to add to wedding registry?

Mariah, on June 11, 2020 at 6:20 PM Posted in Registry 3 44

Hi everyone,

I started this wedding registry and I'm undecided about what to ask for. I've heard from a lot of my married friends that they put a lot of things on their registry that, in the long run, they didn't need. So, I'd like to asked the already married couples:

What do you wish you put on your registry and what do you wish you left off?

The last thing I want to do is end up with a lot of random things that we won't really use.

Thanks in advance!

Use the registry lists at Bed Bath and Beyond.com for a starting point.

I put new bedding, towels, and some kitchen items that I wouldn’t normally buy like platters. We’ve lived together a while but it’s still nice to have good quality matching items.

I wish I asked for an instant pot rather than a slow cooker

Do you already live together/have your own homes or will you need to set up a whole house?

Nice bedding, towels, things that you wouldn’t normally want to spend a lot on but can use for a long time.

We primarily asked for upgrades on items we already had. Nicer towels, sheets, pans. and the like. I thought about what things we use and could use both now and in the future and being mindful of the space we currently have.

My parents still have unopened China from their wedding in the 80s! So yeah, there's definitely a potential to over ask.

I'm no Iron Chef or Martha Stewart, so I went about my registry in a practical way. I mainly put things to upgrade or replace what we already have (goodbye cheap towels from college). That's stuff like pots and pans, dishes (we only went with one set instead of an everyday set and fancy set), linens, vacuum, etc. Then added some things I always wanted but couldn't bring myself to buy, like a Kitchen Aid mixer with all the attachments. Finally, I did some fun things like board games and costers with our favorite teams on them.

We replaced our dishes! I so desperately wanted pretty, non Dollar Store dishes! And I got glass Tupperware and threw out all my plastic stuff (literally always dreamed of being able to do this one day!). We put “reach” gifts on there too, like a grill and we were pleasantly surprised to get it!

If you host events, something good to add is like a card table and folding chairs.
We also did an ice chest.
We did fun stuff too that we never would’ve done otherwise, like a wine preserver (we are too cheap to spend the $15)
We also got useful stuff like air purifiers.

We already lived together so we didn’t need much. We did a Honeyfund and small registries at BBB & Macys’s: new bedding, towels, cooking pans, baking sheets, cooking utensils, tablecloth & napkins, dining table accessories. Loved everything!

That was the first thing I put on my list. I already have a slow cooker but I like that the instant pot can do both and I might also be asking for the Max so I can do some pressure canning as well.

I like that. Folding table and chairs are on my list because I’ve really wanted to be the one to carry on the family gatherings and also have friends over for paint nights, etc.

I’ve already inherited my grandparents’ china, so no need for more, but I do want enough everyday dishes for 8. And I mean I’m pretty sure I’ve been dreaming of putting a kitchenaid stand mixer on my wedding registry almost as long as I’ve been dreaming of getting married.

Thank you! We live together but not alone so I definitely need to focus on things we'd need when we're in our new place.

So, we live together and have accumulated some things over the course of our relationship. However, it still seems like we need so many things I almost don't know where to start...

That totally makes sense. It definitely makes figuring out what we need easier.

Wow, fortunately China never expires lol! That's what I think I'll focus on since we tend to hold on to things for a lot longer than we should. Thank you!

You have no idea how helpful that is! I'm currently trying to purge as much plastic from our lives as possible so I'm definitely adding more dishes and better cups.
