What to do with all of those wedding cards you get...

Cydney J (Cydney M), on December 14, 2011 at 11:17 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 25

So I'm sentimental...(DH calls it a clutter hoarder)...but I tend to keep a lot of things...and our wedding cards, to say the least are one of those things I've decided I want to keep. Just like a wedding guestbook, I want to be able to go back and reread the cards...smiling at all the beautiful words left in them. But what the heck do I do with the 50+ cards we received when we got engaged and married??

Well, problem solved! For awhile, they were still sitting in the card box I made for the wedding...they look terrible thrown into this box and I'd really like to be able to display them...nicely...and in a way DH doesn't look at it as clutter hoarding. Smiley smile

I found this AWESOME DIY card book...and I'm super excited to give it a try! Looks kind of complicated, but well worth it!

Are you ladies planning on keeping your engagement/wedding cards? If so, what have you done or are you going to do with them?

Here's the tutorial: http://somethingturquoise.com/page/4/

What a nice idea! You always bring such creative things to the forum Smiley smile .... I definitely would be interested in doing something like this with our engagement/wedding cards! I would display it too in our home!

Oh wow, that's such a cute idea!! I'm bookmarking that for future reference! I was thinking of getting a keepsake box - Etsy has a ton, and I'd like to save cards, notes, even the little tags that came w/ our gifts that were shipped. I'm a bit of a scrapbook hoarder, but try to keep things contained so DH doesn't think I'm crazy. Smiley smile

Here's an example of what I was thinking of, but am still looking.

Seems like a great idea! Would you please try and let me know if it's doable :-)

Ours are still in the box too. But because DH (I love my man, I really love my man) is a worse hoarder than I am, then I get to keep something once in a while :-)

You're welcome ladies! Smiley smile I'm always looking for creative ways to keep our wedding stuff or reuse it!!! I've had a couple brides PM asking if I had anything left over from my wedding that they could purchase from me b/c they had the exact colors...and I unfortunately had to tell them "no" ... my goal was to use things that could either go home with the guests or reused in our own household after the wedding! Take our table 'numbers' for instance...we used table letters instead...they spelled out K and C JOHNSON ... now they are hanging in our living room! :-D

@Ashley ... I love the box! I bet you could make it!

@Mrs S ... I'll see if I can collect the materials this week and I will do a step by step picture tutorial to post ... I don't have all of the tools the gal in the blog has (and quite frankly, I'd rather not purchase more 'stuff' ... in fear that DH will leave me...totally a joke btw) so I'm going to see what I can do with some of my 'everyday' tools :-) I will let you know!

I haven't even thought of what to do with the cards yet.... I'm not much into scrapbooking but my Mom (bless her heart) is the scrapbooking QUEEN! So I'll just show her this idea and I know she will want to do it(:

LOL ... Jaclyn...I feel like I keep everything that gave me a 'special feeling' ... like I grabbed a matchbook from the place DH and I had our first date as we were walking out... I STILL HAVE IT! I don't think he knows! Smiley smile

I plan on keeping mine maybe in a scrapbook or something. My parents still have the invitation and cards glued from the back in their wedding album..and this is almost 30 years ago!

I keep everything that has any type of sentimental value as well. I still have tickets from every concert and sporting event FH have been to together as well as room keys from vacations we took together! No idea what I plan on doing with them but maybe one day I'll make a scrapbook of our dating years.

I also saw an idea similar to this for wedding and engagement cards on pinterest and I love it! I am definitely going to attempt this as well!

I love that! I'm a hoarder like that too. Smiley smile

My parents/grandparents saved a ton of stuff from their weddings. When FH and I got engaged, it was really fun to dig it all out and see who signed the guestbook, who wrote what in their cards, what was listed in the program......

Totally snagging a picture of this and pinning it to my board so I don't forget. Thanks!

If u are ok with not being able to read the message inside the cards--- u can turn these cards into various Xmas ornaments. I personally don't have that much cards but if I do I would turn it into a paper wreath Smiley smile

I got a card box as a wedding shower gift...so I have all the cards from the shower in there. it's pretty and decorated with lace and it has an opening for a picture. I put our engagement pic in there. I will use it for any wedding cards as well

Tram ... what a cool idea Smiley smile Though, I would like to be able to read what was inside the cards, so I probably wouldn't do that. However, I saw an awesome DIY ornament for our first Christmas as a married couple that I'm going to do...you cut your wedding invite into small strips and curl them...then tuck them into a clear bulb ornament...a presto...your first Christmas as a married couple ornament. Smiley smile

Every card that I have ever recieved, I have put in my "Card" box, which is nothing more than a payless shoe box. haha. But this is a cute idea. Maybe I should do this with all of my cards, put them in different categories and make little booklets. Cute idea!
