What to do?

Hey everyone!

Wondering if anyone can give me some insight on this

So my wedding is April 10 2021, But for spiritual reasons I am tired of waiting I want to get married! So we are having our wedding in PA but live in MarylandI want to get married without family and friends knowing and still have wedding ceremony in reception as if we didn't already get married, still want to do it that way simply because so much money has went in to it already. Anyone have any advice on how I go about this?

I would really advise on just waiting the two months. I suppose you could just go to the courthouse (wait times for an appointment may be longer during covid) and get married or elope elsewhere, as it doesn't seem like MD requires a witness, but if any of your family or friends did find out, they could be hurt or offended that you didn't tell them. People would feel like you lied to them and it wouldn't end well. Also note that your ceremony wouldn't be a legal ceremony since you're already legally married. It's only two months, you're almost there!

I think you answered your own question with this response. If you don't care what others think and you feel your spiritual life is suffering and both of you are on board for getting married earlier, do it.

You could always have a courthouse wedding and sign the paperwork ahead of time, that is much more common than you’d think. Then you sign the framed document the day of and no one knows any different. It is special to spend that moment celebrating with family, but I totally get that you have reasons for wanting to move up the actual marriage.

Go to the courthouse, get married, then proceed with the plans it seems you've already made.

If you google the county you live in and marriage license, you’ll probably be directed to instructions for where you live. Where I live right now, it’s all being done by the mail. You just print out an application, get it signed by a witness, and send it on in with a check for $60. The website says it’ll take a month to get it back. I think at this point, you can even think of doing this piece as “prep” for your wedding! You’re close enough to your planned ceremony date that it’ll be kind of like just checking off the legal piece ahead of time.

I’d check with what the requirements In your state are about the courthouse, usually you just need a witness and you sign!

You bet! I really don’t think it’s a big deal. You’d have to apply for your marriage license ahead of the wedding date anyways, why not do it now! Especially if it eases your mind/heart.

As others said, most courthouses will do weddings by appointment. Make sure to let your officiant for the April wedding know that you’ll already be married since they’ll be expecting to have to sign and file your marriage license.

Don't lie to your guests. Get married now and have a renewal, or wait until the day of the big party to actually get married, but don't deceive your friends and family.

Then get married, but don't lie about it. How would that not also be a problem if you're claiming spirituality for the reason?
