Hi everyone! Sooo FH and I have been joking for the past 4+ years about him paying for my first brazilian wax. I've been too scared to do it, so I've been putting it off ever since. Our wedding is coming up in September, so if I want to wax then, I need to start now to make sure I can handle it....

Hi everyone!

Sooo FH and I have been joking for the past 4+ years about him paying for my first brazilian wax. I've been too scared to do it, so I've been putting it off ever since. Our wedding is coming up in September, so if I want to wax then, I need to start now to make sure I can handle it.

WELL.... he just booked me one for June 6th, and I don't know what to expect. I have ZERO pain tolerance lol so I'm scared of passing out or crying. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

It’s not that bad. In all honesty if your hair down there is long you might want to trim it. Please make sure it’s a reparable wax studio such as European Wax Center. If there using wax strips RUN !! The wax is suppose to harden on its own and be pulled off. Sweating is a natural response for that area so see if they can place baby powder on the area before waxing. When everything is all done find some tea tree oil to apply and maybe an ice pack to soothe the area. DO NOT exercise or soak after this wax it can make the skin irritated and really uncomfortable if you do. Shower before your wax and wait to shower at least 2 hours after. It’ll be worth it and something you’ll want to keep up with once you get used to it. Good luck!

I really don’t think it’s that bad! I’m in no way saying it’s pleasant but it’s also not as terrible as you’re led to believe. I do recommend regularly moisturizing the area before you go and staying hydrated. The hair will come out easier. Also, don’t be alarmed when every hair isn’t gone after that first appointment. You’ll more than likely have some stragglers.

Take a painkiller before, and dont do it for the first time to close to any events, just like a first time facial, it can have adverse effects. The first time I broke out after the wax, making me bow legged till it healed, now that my skin is used to it it isnt as painful and doesnt act up. Also dont go to some hole in the wall spa, to save some money since it is a high infection area cuz of lack of air, so if it isnt the cleanest you could face issues.

I wax my whole legs and honestly I think the skin by my ankles hurts more than the bikini area 😳😂 just remember to BREATHE. You’ll be tempted to hold your breath because that’s kinda the natural reaction to being scared and in pain lol, but if you breathe through it with deep breaths I find that helps it hurt less actually. Also, I’ve known my wax lady for like a decade so I usually just make conversation with her. If I’m absorbed in the conversation it can be distracting and I won’t notice the pain as much.

Good luck! If all else fails, its over pretty quick Smiley smile

OH also, I’d recommend not having any sort of sexual activity for at least 24 hours after you get it done! For me at least, it’s always pretty red and tender afterwards and anything touching it always hurts. Also, with your pores opened up you’re more likely to get an infection from sweat, etc. so give your skin time to recover and your pores time to close up, for at least 24 hours.

Also wear comfortable, loose cotton undies, and loose pants to put on after! Cotton is important (not silk or lace) because again, it’s safer for your skin and will make you less likely to get an infection in the open pores. And you won’t want to be putting on jeans or anything lol, trust me.

I've been doing it for years & more than likely once you get your first, you wont want to shave again! It feels amazing (AFTERWARDS). I do not have a high pain tolerance either. Do NOT shave prior to your appointment, your hair needs to be at least 1/4 inches or longer. Take an Advil before and if you can a hot bath approx. an hour before (helps with opening your pores & inflammation after the appointment-if you end up having it). It definitely stings, but isnt intolerable. You should be done in about 15 minutes & it helps if you strike up a random conversation with your Esthetician. The day of, do not drink coffee or alcohol to loosen up before your appointment. It's a bad myth (makes you dehydrated). Drink lots of water if you dont already.

You'll be in & out. Take deep breaths & remember to breath during the whole process. Try not to flinch if you can help it & stay still. It's much easier if you don't get wax in places it shouldnt be Smiley smile. Over time I've found that the companies/people that dont use the wax strips work is less painful for me. The sugaring technique SUCKS lol. I'm a fan of European Wax Center. Their wax actually hardens on your skin & they pull that right up. Sorry for the novel, but you got this Smiley smile

Oh and wear cotton underwear before & after your appointment, it breaths better & lessens your chances for ingrowns. No submerging in water for 24 hours after your appointment. Should you find you still have wax on you after your appointment (sometimes it can happen), baby oil gel it's it right off. No super hot showers for 24 hours either (warm water is just fine). exfoliate after 24 hours on the regular also. dont use any new products that you dont already use, get loofah or a mesh cloth that's made for it Smiley smile

THANK YOU EVERYONE for the tips and opinions! I had my appointment and it wasn't AS BAD as I thought hahah. Not to say it was pleasant.. but I think the worst part was not shaving for almost two weeks before the appointment....

I definitely will do it again for the wedding. As much as I LOVE the result, I might keep it as something for special occasions lol. I don't know if I can handle waiting for weeks until everything is long enough to wax.
