what to get a MIL who is a tomboy??

Panda Bride, on May 4, 2011 at 11:55 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 15

FH and I have no clue what to get his mom for mothers day. My mom wants lotion from Bath and Body Works. Easy, done. His mom on the other hand is very tomboy-ish. I bought her a Yankee Candle tart warmer last year but I don't think she's ever used it. She doesn't wear make up, jewelry (except her wedding ring), sticks to mostly shirts and t-shirts. Doesn't carry a purse. Doesn't use fancy lotions, body wash, ect. What in the world can we get for this women?? She does like pedicures, but she got me a pedicure gift card for my birthday so I don't want to get her the same thing she got me, you know? I suggested a tiny silver tennis bracelet that she could wear to the wedding but his response was "I don't know....". Throw some ideas at me please! We are going shopping for our moms tomorrow!

I should also add that his family are a bit introverted and are home-bodies, so movie gift card, restaurant cards, things like that won't work

How about a book of some sort?

I thought about a bread cook book, because she has a bread maker, but I don't know how often she uses it. She's not big into reading, so I don't think a book would work either. If it helps, her hobby is quilting, but she has everything she needs for that...

Is there a store she likes? Target even? Or do a mom type thing? I did a picture for my mom and framed it. She doesn't "need" anything so I got her something that she could cherish in a sense. Or do a small scrapbook for her of your fS?

You can never have everything you need for quilting. I crotchet and have several sets of needles, yarn of all colors, and many pattern books/magazines. Does she do household repairs? My mother is a fix-it woman so when all else fails I get small tools or something to go with her cake making supplies since she loves to make cakes.

Your FMIL sounds almost identical to mine. lol. Does she garden at all? Mine gardens so she gets seeds, plants, anything to do with gardening for mothers day. What about getting her some nice fabric to make a quilt? IDK how much it generally runs, or how much you were looking to spend, but its something she enjoys to do. lol.

Maybe a gift card for the local fabric/craft store so she can get quilting supplies. I would think fabric and patterns are always needed.

When in doubt, I just buy a bottle of decent champagne and put it in a pretty bag, along with a handwritten note on beautiful paper. No one has said no to that yet!

You could also do a "brunch kit" with a mini bottle of champagne and some OJ (mimosas!), scone mix, etc.

I think I figured it out! I have gone camping with them the past 3 years, so I'm going to print all of the best camping pics and put them in an album for for. Most of the pics are of FH, his brothers, and me anyway, and the beautiful scenery.

Great idea. She sounds like my mother in regards to camping. I could get my mother anything camping related and she would be tickled pink. Smiley smile
