What to Put

AEW, on August 2, 2019 at 9:37 PM Posted in Registry 0 12

So already have plenty of home stuff and don't really need things like that. I've looked up doing like a trip registry where, you can pick a place or an event that you would like to visit and people can donate towards it. I believe I read about it on blueprint registry.

Is anyone else not in need of home-building items and would prefer to do a donation type registry? Or do you think you should just think of the things you would like to have most as a couple and put that on your list instead?

I’m planning on doing a mixture of both. For home stuff, I’m looking at things that could use upgrading (definitely glasses because I keep breaking them 😐) and will donate what I get replaced. As for our honeymoon, we’re going on a cruise so I will create a registry through the cruise line to help cover excursions and different activities on the boat.

We are in our 40s and dont really need anything. Just picked a few inexpensive items on bed bath and beyond and set up a honey fund "starting our lives together fund" for people to give cash. You can pick anything like a honeymoon or buying a house but we didnt want questions or to seek disingenuous. I think we mentioned taking his kids on a trip or something. I used "the knot" and its convenient for people. We received one gift that was chosen by the couple but we didnt register. It was beautiful and thoughtful but a lot of people are fine with giving cash. It feeds into my savings account.

I had a hard time doing our registry as well since we were in the same boat. We bought our house almost 2 years ago and are in our early 30s. We have a lot of things, but they’re also things we brought from our previous apartments when we were single, so decided to upgrade our kitchen stuff (nicer glasses, new plates, new steak knives, knives, serving platters, waffle make, etc), kitchen appliances we don’t have (mixer, bigger food processor, etc) and then I did bedding, bah stuff and decor for the house since I never finished decorating and that’s what I really want to do.

I used my registry since you can link your other registries as well as ads things from any site with one click, so you don’t have to have a registry at each store and they can see everything in one place.

    Good luck!

Just don't register, and people will gift cash. Sites like the honeyfund charge fees. And some guests find them offensive for some odd reason. I honestly don't see how wanting money to go towards an experience is any more offensive than a gift registry.

This is a know your crowd thing. Some people find honeymoon registries disingenuous because they aren’t actually buying you that experience or dinner, it’s just money going into your bank account with a middleman taking a fee. But for some people it’s normal and common in their crowd. We had a traditional registry and received a ton of cash and checks without asking.

I’ve had someone on here tell me they will never give to a honeymoon fund again after finding out they weren’t actually purchasing the experience. I personally don’t have an issue if people have one but I could see where some people don’t understand.

    AEW,

This was another “to do” I was conflicted about. I am in the same predicament. My hubby to be and myself each have homes that are fully furnished. However, I did a registry for things that we both would like to have as a newly wed couple. For instance, we decided to get new cookware (Rachel Ray) and other kitchen items, we also added some small appliances that we each would like to have which we currently do not own. Lastly, we both love changing our bedding every few months (not the sheets and pillow cases those are changes as often as needed ;-). But like the duvets and comforters so we added that to our registry.

As the saying goes it is your choice, do what you like. I think either decision will work for you!

    Erin,
You and I both had the same idea in mind. It is comforting to know that someone else has the same thought process as myself.

Thanks for the ideas ladies! The more I think about it, it can't hurt to have some updated items for our new home. FH has just relocated to NY for work so once I'm done here with my summer job in AK I'll be joining him. We were in Cali so I'm sure some nice warm fluffy things would come in handy lol

We have done a honeymoon registry and just a couple of things we really need. Other than that we don't really need anything.

We added a few things of varying price points to our registry, mostly things we already plan to get for our home anyway but haven't yet. (We moved in last September right after getting engaged) We would actually prefer money for our honeymoon next year and added Honeybook to our registry. But since I know many people won't trust something like that or prefer something tangible to bring to the event we also added Visa gift cards as well as gift cards for restaurants and Lowe's (still doing renovations!) to make it easier. Honestly, since only 2 items have been purchased so far I think we're going to end up with a lot of cash which totally works for us!!!!

I actually put items that would help me renovate my home-book cases, paint, rugs, outdoor furniture, landscaping hardware, etc. I know that’s still somewhat typical but I have an older home and I’m itching to bring my Pinterest pins to life.
