What to spend more on? Food or drinks?

Stephanie, on November 30, 2021 at 4:44 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 12
Hi ladies!
I wanted to ask around and see what people are spending more on, the food or the bar? We are doing a buffet style for food and having an open bar. However we just cannot decide on if we go with premium liquors for the open bar or the more expensive buffet option. We can’t afford to do both 😭

If it were me, I’d spend more upgrading the food. I’ve never seen anyone mad about there not being premium options at the bar.

I would definitely spend more on the food, not everyone drinks but everyone will eat!

I'd go for food...only a fraction of your guests will care about premium liquors, but everyone loves great food. Smiley smile

Another vote for food. No one notices whether it's the premium liquor after the first drink or two!

So long as there is some alcohol, your guests will be fine. Our venue gave us the option of a premium beverage package but it was 1.6x the cost of the regular beverage package and the only ‘upgrade’ was champagne and more varieties of beer so for us it was not an upgrade we saw as worth the extra cash.

I definitely agree with others to go for food – people remember great food more than they remember a limited or regular alcohol assortment.

I would say the food! The reason being is because you may have guests that do not drink or can't drink because they are underage. And the food definitely makes a big impression Smiley smile

EDIT: Also i wanted to add, our wedding is no kids and average age is 25-40 so we’ll definitely have drinkers. The lesser cost food option isn’t bad either, there are just fancier options for it too.

I think there was a WeddingWire article that mentioned what the guests actually care about that I read recently. One of the things was food, and as a wedding guest, I'd care more about food too! I drank at the last two weddings I was at, and I didn't care how much the liquor cost because I cared more about the couples who I was there to support + the food!

The food FOR SURE. i feel like people will remember getting bad food more than the fact that there were limited kinds of alcoholic drinks, ya know?

Food for sure, but don't go super cheap on your booze that everyone ends up hungover from just that Smiley sad 65/35 split maybe?
