What to wear!?! May Engagement photos!

Ella Marie, on February 12, 2018 at 12:36 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15
Our engagement photos will be in May. Early May. I’m at a loss for what to wear. It’ll be spring, so I was thinking a really pretty flow-y maxi dress?!! The pictures will be outside at this restaurant called Green Gables! It’s right next to a lake but the grounds are gorgeous. Bed rock flower beds, Grecian style statues, manicured lawns, tall old oak trees...very romantic, rustic and elegant rolled in to one!

I am also having our pictures done in May in a setting similar! I’m thinking a maxi dress too. Are you thinking a solid color or florals?

I don’t think you’re thinking about it too much at all. I had an outfit planned and then changed my mind completely and ordered a last minute dress. It was delivered an hour before we met up with our photographers. I did two outfits because we had two locations.

I wore a flowy maxi in a similar setting, it turned out great! I would definitely go with the solid pink, they are both beautiful but I think the floral dress is quite dark and the pink is more spring time.

Our engagement session is in early May too! Smiley smile

My plan is to wear a white dress (possibly lace), with boots (sort of like riding boots, they lace up in the back) and a denim jacket over it (that I can take off to change up the look a little if I want to).

We are taking our pictures in a sunflower field because sunflowers are our main flower, so my outfit is going to reflect the rustic theme of both the field and our wedding.

For what you described, I think a sundress or maxi dress would be nice Smiley smile whatever you feel most comfortable in. And either a pair of flats or cute wedges (so you don't sink into the dirt with heels Smiley tongue), again, whatever you feel most comfortable in. Check out Lulu's for dresses! The lace one I'm looking at is from there!

Okay so I see you're already looking on Lulus Smiley smile

for the number of outfits, I just read a blog post from a photographer today that said it depends on how long your session is. Ours is just an hour I think, so I'm just going to do one outfit because I'd rather not waste time changing clothes. But if you had, like someone above said, more than one location and/or more time, you could plan additional outfits and not be affected by the time it takes to change.

Same problem over here! Although my engagement photos are in 2 days so I don't really have any time left! I like the idea of maxi dress. I would suggest the plain one over the really bright floral one because the plain pastel color has more of a timeless look too it. You don't typically want to be too trendy because these photos will most likely be out on display at your house for a long time. Also wear something that you would normally wear for a nice event or night out or something (try not to stray to far away from what you normally wear).

I am doing two outfits. First one is actually my mom's wedding dress (shhhh don't tell her it's a surprise). She made her own dress and it's a very casual style, kind of like a spring time or summer dress. Turns out i am bustier than she was so I actually had to get it altered. Second outfit will be jeans and a cute shirt with booties or something else (haven't figured out shoes yet). Second outfit is something more like what I would normally wear on an everyday basis.

I think solid prints work best, they don’t go outdated as fast, and they are more flattering. Honestly look through your closet! I went through mine and found a solid navy blue dress I’ve never worn but is so gorgeous! I also found a white dress that I paired with a jean jacket.

Are you allowed to use 2 outfits? If not, I'd go right for a formal look, but if you can do a casual session too do that first, and then change into a dress!

For casual outfit, nice dark colored jeans that fit well and a cute shirt with fitted waist (or if not, consider adding a cardigan cinched with a skinny belt) - no matter what your frame is (but from your picture looks like you're in great shape!), this plays off as more flattering in pictures than a top that's flowy around the mid-section. I did dark jeans, a sparkly tank top, and a belted cardigan and I thought it worked pretty well.

For your "formal" look, definitely go with a long dress if you want to make a statement! Pick a color that tends to flatter you, and a luxurious, romantic material that will flow nicely, like chiffon, taffeta, silk, or tulle. Mine was off-the shoulder and fitted in the bodice. My sister rented a gold full-sequin gown that looked amazing.

Have fun with it, this is your chance to wear that thing you've always pictured yourself modeling, with no worry what anyone else will be wearing!
