What to wear while wedding dress shopping?

Samantha & Antonio, on January 16, 2022 at 3:04 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 18
I have my first wedding dress appointment coming up this Saturday. I’m not sure what’s ok to wear when trying on dresses? Is it ok the wear spanks? Do I wear a strapless bar while trying on dresses or no bra so I know what the coverage/support is?

I wore spanx, a strapless bra, and it was during summer so I just threw a sun dress over it, but I ended up taking the bra off for a few dresses because it just didn't sit right and that's what the consultant recommended

You can wear whatever you’d like. I don’t even own a strapless bra and wasn’t about to buy one just to try on dresses, so I kept my bra on and took my arms out of the straps. It worked fine. For fittings, I didn’t wear a bra because the seamstress put cups in the dress. You can wear spanx if you want to. Whatever you think will help you find the right dress. You don’t want to leave the spanx at home and then wish you had them to make your decision. Good luck! It’s a lot of fun!!

I would wear something that's easy to take on and off! I agree with the others that most dresses have cups inside and don't sit right with a bra, so even though I wore one, it ended up getting flung on one side for most of the time.

I didn't wear spanx, but you could, if it makes you feel more comfortable! Whatever underwear you choose, make sure it's underwear you're comfortable someone else seeing is my only advice, haha!

I wore shorts, T-shirt & flip flops. Put my hair in a ponytail to keep it out of the way. I didn’t have makeup on since the shirt was being taken off soo much.

It is generally advised that you come prepared with whatever undergarments and shoes you intend to wear on the day of your wedding - i.e. have your shoes (or something of equivalent height) with you, and if you plan to wear any, shapewear.

Most dresses have inbuilt support that removes the need for a bra but it doesn't hurt to bring a strapless bra in case. I am a G cup and I brought 3 different types of bras with me because I was worried about support, and surprisingly didn't need the bras, but I wanted to be prepared anyway.

With shapewear, a little word of advice I got from my seamstress - if wearing it, make sure your shapewear is smooth so that it doesn't cause your dress to ride up and crinkle due to the friction!

Also keep in mind, if you want a lower back or open back dress, most shapewear will show

I don’t remember what I wore to my appointments (probably jeans or leggings) but I only tried on dresses wearing a nude thong. Having no bra/spanx/etc. was helpful to see each dress without worrying about interfering straps and such. It was also way easier and less exhausting having fewer garments to get in and it of or feel restricted by.

I wore a dress. Didn't have Spanx or bra while trying on most dresses. It's easier to just worry about the dress and a lot of the dresses had the support already built in. If they did not, I was provided with what was needed. Granted different stores do different things as I went to more than one place

I didn’t wear a bra for my fitting as all the dresses I tried on had support in them. In retrospect maybe a little gross? But oh well 🤷🏻‍♀️ And I wore seamless beige underwear. I brought my shoes but because all the dresses were so long I didn’t end up putting them on at all. I just walked around in my socks. Honestly made it easier to step in and out of the room without shoes on lol

I wore a blouse, crops and wedge heels (this was in September so it was that summer/fall transition time). I fixed my hair somewhat like how I want to wear it for the wedding (half up) and wore minimal makeup. I didn't want to risk getting makeup on the dresses. I brought my Spanx with me in a tote but I didn't put them on. I wore a strapless bra but most of the dresses I tried on had built-in cups so I didn't wear the bra for each try-on. My parents gave me a strand of pearls as a birthday present years ago that I'm planning to wear for the wedding, and I wore them the day I went shopping. Since I already knew I want to wear that necklace, it was helpful to see how it looked with the dresses when I tried them on. At one bridal shop, they gave me a pair of heels to wear with the dresses but they were extremely painful, so I ended up putting my wedges back on to try the dresses on. IF you have an idea of what kind of shoes you want to wear, it might be helpful to bring them or wear them that day. Have fun!!

I wish I had worn spanks!!! But you can bring a strapless bra if you want, I would say a lot of dresses already have pads in them so you might not need it. At least every dress I tried on had them.

I think the main thing is to carry out fitting in a good mood. Otherwise, you will waste your time

I wore a strapless bra every time, and I'm glad I did so. Otherwise, I wore jeans and a loose-fitting top that would be quick and easy to get on and off. I also took a pair of shoes that were similar to what I wanted to wear that I would change into. That made it easier for longer dresses.

I wore my yoga clothes with pasties (since most dresses don't need bras) and nude seamless underwear! Smiley smile I did my makeup dramatically. I heard it's recommended to bring spanx/ shapewear if you can but I didn't have any and it wasn't a big deal
