What wines are you serving at your reception?

Monica SC, on January 30, 2015 at 10:44 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 13

We are having a limited bar....beer, wine, sodas and probably a signature drink. Thomas Creek brewery is right down the street from where I work and we will serve a couple of selections from there along with something like Bud Light...that's easy enough. The wine however....I have NO clue. I am thinking a red and a white....maybe a sparkling. Need some suggestions...

We have a big discount beer and wine store here and also a Total Wines. There is a very small winery located about 10 miles from our house. I stopped by there and most of their stuff was fairly expensive.

We will only have 50 guests.

We have a premium open bar, our venue serves Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Grigio and White Zinfandel.

What are you serving for dinner? If you are serving beef you may want to offer a red wine like merlot. I worry about red wine and stains so depending on your venue/stain fear you could skip the red.

I would definitely offer a white, if you skip the red offer 2 whites (one dryer, one sweeter). Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc are more dry. Chardonnay is kind of in the middle. Moscato is sweet. I would also offer a blush White Zinfandel, which is very popular.

I would just buy all the wine at the discount wine store!

I'd definitely do a red and a white--Cabernet and chardonnay are always safe bets.

We had an open bar during cocktail hour and served two signature drinks: Sweet On You strawberry vodka lemonade and the the White Wedding Cosmopolitan. The rest of the night we had beer and Berry Happy Together Sangria. http://blog.theknot.com/2013/07/08/7-creative-signature-wedding-cocktail-names-plus-recipes/

I am looking for recommendations on a specific wine you like or are serving such as Kendall Jackson Chardonnay, or Blue Vin Riesling, Barefoot Moscato.....

We aren't serving wine. We will have beer, hard ciders, and probably some lemonade as the non-alcoholic option.

We aren't doing any alcohol at all. Instead, we're just doing an Italian soda bar and water. The whole thing is costing about $100.

For your red option i wouldn't suggest a cab or a merlot, they are heavier and it takes a wine drinker to really enjoy those. also, the good ones are expensive. I suggest a pinot noir for your red because it is a soft varietal that is easily enjoyed, and you can find very decent inexpensive pinot noir's. for your white wine option, i agree that chardonnay's are the most popular. as a bartender, I've always sold more chardonnay than any other white varietal, but personally i can't stand them lol! hope this helps!

I did Kendall Jackson Chardonnay, a pinot, black box Merlot and cab, and bota box Merlot and cab. Yums!

I can't remember the name of the pinot....it was from Italy and had a little twiggy thing on the bottle.

The Bota box wines are remarkably good; just decant them into carafes

    white; pinot grigio

    red; cabernet or pino noir

do a sparkling pink moscato or prosecco

We have five beer options (a mix of craft and domestic), pinot noir (red), pinot grigio (white) and champagne.

After years of partying with these people we're inviting, most of them drink pinot grigio, and the ones that drink red will appreciate a pinto noir.

We're leaving liquor out of our package.
