what would you do differently?

Aronna, on August 9, 2013 at 2:00 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 14

I see posts from brides already married saying they wished they'd worn another gown, things like that.

is there any opportunity that you felt you missed or something you wish you could do over?

I'm making some slight changes to start our day sooner and make the most of it. such as we will now have our 'first look' moment with a carriage ride before the wedding vs after. this way we don't leave people waiting, we'll have special un-rushed private time together and I think I would regret not making the most out of every moment of our big day.

I like the idea of us being able start the day out special together vs his being in one place and my in another for hours until I walk down the isle.

particularly for those that saved the first look for the isle, or did their first look differently, how did you do it and would you do it differently?

please share.

I think a lot of people who have done the first look, have cherished the moment. We're doing one too, and I'm really leaking forward to it!

Also, I'd like to add that I'm just slightly jealous that you are having an actual Halloween wedding, but due to too many OOT guests, it wouldn't have worked for us, and I wasn't going to wait longer!!! I can't wait to see your wedding too! Are you doing many Halloweenish things?

I wish we'd scouted out a better place for the First Look. Our venue was kind of small, and our first look place wasn't that far from where our guests were beginning to congregate. I wasn't that worried about being seen, but it didn't make it the most private moment, and the photographers didn't have that much room to move without capturing guests or a tool-shed and lawnmower in the background.

I am changing some things from my first wedding (escort cards versus seating chart, comes to mind), but some stuff worked well and I'm doing it the same (no first look, family pictures prior to ceremony, cocktail hour between)

    In a sense, I do get a do-over.

I love the fact that were having a big wedding in my home town but I would have totally had a destination wedding if I had known all the things I knew now. Rsvps, all, the details, the $$$$$. Lol

I definitely understand the argument for having a first look but we opted not to have one. So the first time my husband saw me was while I was walking down the aisle. I definitely would not change anything about that moment, it was my favorite part of the day and it was as if time stood still (how cliche does that sound?!).But I will say we were definitely rushed for pictures, especially because our ceremony and reception location were at the same venue. We still got all the pictures we wanted to and more but we weren't able to enjoy any of our cocktail hour Smiley sad

HalloweenBride: hope I don't disappoint, but other than maybe using some ballroom masks here and there, we aren't doing anything Halloween stuff for the wedding. we are having the wedding then cake and punch for the reception, then going for a night on the town afterwards. THEN the halloween fun will begin. Smiley smile

we picked halloween for a lot of reasons. it's our favorite 'holiday' and we always look forward to it. when we moved our wedding to where we live vs my hometown, the weekday factor didnt' matter much since this is now mostly for us and whoever can make it since most family can't.don't tell them, but that has turned into a plus! lol

we really wanted a fun night on the town & when better than halloween? I thought about making it the weekend after myself, but having halloween for our anniversary was just too good to pass up! we always go out and have fun, now we can toast our anniversary on that day!

Casey: I do see your point, and until the other day I never even considered a first look.

then my groom brought up the idea of having our carriage ride before the wedding. I thought that would be silly. told him that he wouldn't have that surprise of seeing me for the first time.

then he told me that he thought seeing me for the first time walking towards the carriage would be totally magical! Very regal, and then we could go off in our private un-rushed carriage ride to further cherish that time.

I'm still not totally decided, I have a horrible time with decisions, but I think he has something there! If we didn't have something so special in mind I probably would be sold on the walk down the isle.

we live such a urban lifestyle, I'm thinking of showing up on the 16th street mall ride after a light rail ride, then having someone play here comes the bride on the pianos they have downtown for whoever to play.

Denver is a one of a kind city&we love it! Smiley smile

Rev Ann I love this "3. I'd suggest a First Look and go with whatever my husband preferred. "

I REALLY wanted to do a first-look, but FH is very against it and I figure if that's something that's super important to him, then he should have it!

Rev ann- though I'm not really picking colors as much as going to a overall look, I'm doing most everything in black&white! that wasn't my original plan since my original venue was my hometown church with a very drab fellowship hall.

my new venue has the window in my avitar picture, and black and white is just the thing for the decorations in a already beautiful location. Smiley smile

I went with a pretty but "safe" gown. I wish I chose something more exciting and dramatic. I only got to wear a wedding dress once!

I also hated my hair. It turned out ok in pictures but it was really flat and my curls got really frizzy.

I wish I had been more dramatic with my make up. It got a little washed out in pictures and I feel like I looked a little plain.
