What would you do - increase food or continue party for longer?

mrswinteriscoming, on June 7, 2021 at 12:09 AM Posted in Planning 0 16

FH and I postponed our wedding (due to covid) by exactly one year, meaning we are now getting married on a Sunday. This is not too problematic though as in our circle, many weddings are held on a Sunday, and we know many people plan to take the Monday off work since it will be a big soiree.

We have an option right now to finish the wedding at 11:30pm (instead of midnight) and get an extra $5 spend per person towards extra food or other items.

Given Sunday weddings aren't problematic amongst our crowd, I'm not sure if we keep the party going til midnight or finish that little bit earlier. For reference, our ceremony will start at 5pm.

If you were our guest, would you prefer to go home 30 minutes early with more food in your belly, or would you prefer to keep on dancing?

If I went to a wedding starting at 5, I’d likely be ready to leave by 11:30 regardless of food - that’s a long day assuming drinks are also involved so I’d choose the earlier time and more food option.

I would definitely opt for ending at 11:30 no matter what day of the week.

I'd go for the extra food. I don't say this due to the Sunday thing (black tie Sunday evening weddings are very common in my social circle as well), but because 6.5 hours is already plenty long.

Spend it on the food and drink. 6 hours of a social evening is pretty near my limit. Arriving 30 minutes before the ceremony to chat and be seated , by 11-11:15 I will be done, on a schedule like yours.

I think this depends on how much food you are already providing and when. If your ceremony starts at 5, what time does your dinner/dessert start? Would you have cocktail hour. Depends on the the quantity and the timing, your guests may not need more food but if they are like those in my case, would appreciate the longer open bar.

I would end 30 minutes earlier and provide more food. If you’re not doing some sort of novelty food/drink option, I would use it for that (ie, late night bites, espresso station, gelato cart, sushi, etc.) Guests will definitely remember the extra touches more than an extra 30 mins on the dance floor.

I personally would end at 11:30, that's definitely more than enough time.

Our cocktail hour starts at 6pm with canapes and drinks and thereafter our reception will formally kick off at about 6:45pm with our first course being served around 7pm. It is a three course plated meal (wedding cake served in addition to plated desserts) with a bread roll for each guest, but we will have a lot of alcohol (spirits in addition to your standard wine/beer service). My thoughts were if we were to serve extra food that this be in the form of a few shared items for the table for people to help themselves to (i.e. salads, antipasto type dishes etc). Where I come from, weddings ordinarily go until midnight hence my query but it seems we will go ahead with more food and finish at 11:30pm. In my book, no one will complain about having lots of food!

If you have a good DJ or band, keep dancing!! Once I’m on the dance floor I always feel like the wedding ends too early! 😂 I’ve also been over-fed at weddings and not enjoyed that… I guess maybe a happy medium would be could the credit be used as a welcome drink as guests are arriving for the ceremony? Our guests were served champagne as they arrived for the ceremony and people told us they enjoyed that.
