What Would You Do? Late Vendors

Maria, on December 19, 2019 at 10:29 AM Posted in Married Life 0 5

Hey all! I got married on October 5, 2019 and it was an overall great day. Our photographer was awesome and got our photos back to us within a week! Unfortunately, our videographer has yet to provide our video/raw footage. The contract stated 7 weeks to receive everything and it is now nearly 11 weeks. The Monday after the 7 week date I emailed to make sure it didn't accidentally go to Junk mail and eventually received a message back saying it would be done in the next week or two. I emailed again a few days ago since it is past that "week or two" timeframe and now received a response that is should be done next week because they were busier than expected.

I understand that I got married in the busiest wedding month of the year but I was a last minute booking (less than a month prior) so it seems like they would have altered their contract to accommodate the load they were dealing with (12-16 week turn-around time instead?). I haven't been extremely pushy because I fear the quality of our video might suffer but do mention that the contract stated 7 weeks in every email sent.

Once I do receive the video, should I push to get some reimbursement for the delay? How do I do that? This videographer is a well-known vendor in my area with all 5-star reviews and thousands of followers on Facebook so it's not like I'm trying to track down an acquaintance with a camera. Should I just let it go since I was a last minute booking and 7 weeks is a super quick turn-around time? What would you do?

It's tough since you were a last minute wedding for them. When reviewing them, I, personally, would mention that you were a last minute bride for them and that the video editing/finishing processes took a couple weeks later than promised in the contract. That way other brides will know that if they book them last minute, they can expect their video to get to them later.

I would leave an honest, but fair, review and let it go at that.

We got our photos back later than the contract stated, but the photographer was apologetic about it and gave us an Amazon gift card to make up for it a bit (honestly would rather she have taken the money off of the last payment, but I wasn't going to haggle over it).

I agree with others about just leaving an honest review.

    Date twins!

Once you receive you videos, I would let your videographer know that you are unhappy with the extreme delay in receiving your finished product based on what was agreed upon in your contract. Then, I would leave very honest reviews here on WW and The Knot. That may encourage your videographer to give you some sort of compensation.

Our videographers had an 8 week turn around time and we got our videos back in exactly 8 weeks. So regardless of how busy they are, if they promise you a certain time frame, they need to stick to it.

Thank you all for your input. We finally received all of our promised videos!

The edited video arrived on January 27th (~16 weeks after wedding - 9 weeks late).

We didn't get the raw footage until February 22nd (~20 weeks after wedding - 13 weeks late). This took many emails and pestering...

We paid the same price as someone who booked a year in advance but I have a feeling all of their deliveries are that late. I really hate posting bad reviews since we liked our video but I think the expectation for future brides should be clear going in.
